Weather

Hot, cold, wet, or on fire – Orlando has seen a lot of types of weather. We use AccuWeather.com for extended forecasts and WESH Channel 2 and the Orlando Sentinel for daily weather updates. For unexpected weather days, such as unexpectedly cold or windy weather, watch Univeral Orlando’s website and social media, WESH, and the Orlando Sentinel for operation updates. Universal Orlando announces hurricane closures once the NOAA and local weather authorities issue hurricane warnings for the Orlando area, usually 12-24 hours before a storm makes landfall. For more information on Universal Orlando’s hurricane policies read our article What to Know if a Hurricane Might Impact Your Orlando Vacation (Blog).

Flight information.

Transportation – Planes, Trains, & Automobiles

As someone who was stuck in New York an extra day during the Crowdstrike flight shutdowns on July 19, 2024 I can say that travel issues are their own special headache. If you drive to the resort and experience car issues use one of the call boxes found in the parking garage to alert security and raise your hood for the international signal for “car trouble”. The closest gas stations are found behind Islands of Adventure Turkey Lake Rd, the intersection of Vineland Rd and 435, and International Drive and 435. Guests impacted by flight issues should check their airline, departure airport, and arrival airport’s website for flight updates and policy changes, like extended rebookings free of charge. Website FlightAware is a great tool to track your flight status and where your airplane is currently located and is often updated quicker than your airline’s website. We use FlightAware to track persnickety airports and flight routes

Health

Health scares are frequent at theme parks – from the hot weather causing heat stroke to a fall spraining an ankle. The good news is Universal is ready for you. There are two First Aid locations in each park, one at the front of the park and another closer to the back of the park (next to Fast & Furious Supercharged at Universal Studios Florida and in Lost Continent by the Mystic Fountain. For Urgent Care the closest site is Concentra Urgent Care at 6708 Grand National Dr, Orlando, FL 32819 and in-room visits are available through The Medical Concierge Urgent Care 1-833-355-5252. The closest pharmacies to Universal Orlando are the Walgreens on the corner of Universal Blvd and International Drive and Vineland Rd and 435.

Clothes, Shoes, & Fashion

Fashion emergencies are real emergencies – this past trip my sandals of 10+ years decided to give up the ghost and dissolve on my feet as I walked to the restroom. While not the biggest emergencies they always occur at the least opportune times – whether it’s something you forgot to pack, something you stained, or Grandpa rips the butt out of his shorts. The hotel gift shop sells some t-shirts and clothing items, it is hardly enough for an emergency. Whenever something breaks or we forget to pack it, our go-to is same-day delivery through Amazon.com. Amazon carries hundreds of items that are delivered the same day you order them, sometimes with an additional fee. If you need something more specialized visit the Mall at Millenia, a 10-minute drive north east, which includes shops like Macy’s, FootLocker, H&M, and more.

Technology

Cracked screen, lost phone, or water-damaged tablet? Best Buy’s house electronics repair service, Geek Squad, can help with lots of technical issues on the same day at the Mall at Millenia. Also at the Mall at Millenia is the Apple Store for new purchases and repairs. UNIFIX on Vineland Rd is an independently run strip mall store that specializes in phone and tablet screen repairs.
