Photos: Downtown Disney’s New Wonderful World of Sweets and Storyland Boutique
Downtown Disney at Disneyland Resort is continuing its transformation that has seen store remodels, the demolition of its old movie theater structure, closures of former tenants, and the opening of new establishments, such as the fantastic Din Tai Fung. Recently two more new stores have opened, Disney Wonderful World of Sweets and Storyland Boutique. In this post we’ll take a look to see what they have to offer and if they’re worth visiting.
Disney Wonderful World of Sweets replaces the former Marceline’s Confectionery, which was also Disney-owned and also a candy store. Marceline’s Confectionery was an opening day Downtown Disney shop that saw minimal changes over the years and was in need of a visual makeover.
The star of the new shop is the freshly made caramel popcorn featuring Werther’s Original Caramel. This is the first time popcorn with Werther’s Original Caramel has been offered in Disneyland Resort. The caramel popcorn is a popular item in the Germany World Showcase pavilion in EPCOT.
The cost for the caramel popcorn is $8.99 a bag, which is a bit high, but you do get a generous portion.
I can not stress this enough, be sure to buy a bag that was made on the day you are purchasing it. Disneyland Resort will let these bags sit out for a couple of days after they make them which causes the popcorn and caramel to be stale. The first bag I bought was awfully stale so I had to ask for a replacement.
How’s the popcorn? It’s truly glorious. It’s got rich and buttery caramel flavor that is addicting. It’s just as good as the EPCOT original.
A second candy kitchen has been added to the store. Inside you can see cast members making the caramel popcorn.
The merchandizing wizards at Disney have created a new original character for Disney Wonderful World of Sweets. Poppi is its name and for $29.99 you can take home a popcorn bucket. I had a laugh at the “LIMIT TWO PER ITEM, PER GUEST” sign. I don’t think they’re going to have a problem enforcing that one.
The store sells both freshly made and bagged treats and snacks.
The store is cute and you can tell they put a decent amount of effort into the decor and themed props. It’s also double the size of its previous incarnation. Disney Wonderful World of Sweets expanded into the space formally occupied by the Disney Dress Shop.
Some of the delicious goodies made onsite.
There’s plenty of the ever popular gigantic suckers and lollypops.
Be sure to peek into one of the two candy kitchens to see the talented cast members at work.
Moving on to Disney Storyland Boutique. This shop replaces the WonderGround Gallery, which has moved next door to Salt & Straw.
Nice signage where each letter is inspired by a Disney character.
The Disney Storyland Boutique contains many similar items that you’d find in almost every other giftshop in the park.
Storyland Boutique is home to another location of the popular Create Your Own Headband station.
Overall Disney Storyland Boutique feels like a temporary store and doesn’t offer anything to really standout. However, Disney Wonderful World of Sweets is an upgrade in almost every way. Be sure to stop by and grab some delicious caramel popcorn.
