Updated – Changes To Lines Chat Guidelines
Today we are introducing changes to how Lines’ chat feature is moderated. These changes will ensure that Lines’ chat remains a family-friendly, inclusive discussion about Disney’s theme parks and resorts.
The following guidelines will apply to all Lines discussion effective immediately:
- Lines chat is dedicated to discussing touring Disney’s theme parks. Off-topic or non-Disney conversations will not be retained.
- All discussions and language must be both respectful of other Lines users and family-friendly. Posts with innuendo, double entendres and suggestive language will not be retained.
- Posts which interfere with the operation or moderation of Lines’ chat will not be retained.
- Lines’ moderators will make the final decision on whether any post, conversation or user complies with these guidelines or their intent.
Posts which do not meet these guidelines will not be retained. In those cases, moderators may warn users about their posts, temporarily suspend users from Chat, or prohibit users from further use of Chat. As a result of this decision, Lines’ “Backstage Chat” area will be closed by the end of today.
Questions on these new guidelines should be directed to chat@touringplans.com.
Update: If you’re a Backstage Chat users who would like to contact other Backstage Chat users outside of Lines, send an email to chat@touringplans.com with the names of the users you’d like to contact. We’ll send an email on your behalf to those users with your request.
The further away I got from my trip to WDW, I posted less in the main room and more backstage. I hate to see backstage go–met a lot of nice folks back there 🙂
I am sad. Backstage is where i felt like family. We had support for sickness or familt dilema. Just chat is like a goigle of wdw. I am upset. Freedom of speech is what america is about. If you were upset dont rrad it or comment.
I agree with what the others said. I do also wish a little bit more notice would have been given before Backstage was removed though because it would have been nice to get contact info from people with whom “friendships” have been built. I never thought it completely necessary, until now.
I’m sure it’s not an easy job to be moderators on chat forums. Since the heart of Lines is Disney, it is understandable that you would want to keep it centered on Disney.
Thanks for all you do to make Touring Plans and Lines what they are!
I like what Brian and Clara said better than what I posted earlier.
Wow. This seems to be an unfortunate and sudden change.
While I was glad to see the moderation decisions that toned down the Backstage Chat a few months ago, I’m very sorry to see the Backstage Chat disbanded entirely. It allowed Liners to get to know one another better, do fun things together (like the Fantasy Football League) and otherwise grow as a community.
I can’t help but think Lines will be lesser for the loss. I also can’t help but think there was some other option short of removing the Backstage area entirely.
I respect the right to do away with the Backstage area, but sorry this decision was made nonetheless.
Not opposed to the change but more than a few hours notice would have been nice to have
Wow,…this seems harsh; but it’s your website. I’ve enjoyed both forums immensely and have never been upset by anything I’ve seen. People will always be people. Takes all kinds to make the “world” go ’round. Don’t lose sight of that.
Great idea. It can be so hard to run any sort of public form. It is always best to identify upfront what is acceptable and what is not.
Problem is, this is occurring after the fact. Lines started with only 1 chat area. The admins decided to add a Backstage area for non-WDW discussion. Now that’s taken away (a) with no notice and (b) little explanation as to why.
Again, their house and I respect their decision to make their rules. Just seems odd to create the Backstage area and then take it away.
