Hello From Disneyland Paris!
Just finished our third full day in Disneyland Paris. The Disneyland Paris park is beautiful, and combines the size of Florida’s Magic Kingdom with the detail of Disneyland. Frontierland, Adventureland and Fantasyland seem to be much larger here than in the US parks, and Big Thunder is perhaps the park’s main draw. And while I’m not a fan of how the US’ Dumbo rides are done (and done … and done), the one here is magnificent. The coaster rides (BTM, Space and Indiana Jones) are much more rough than in the US, and Americans will find many of the ride vehicles a tight fit.
The Studios park here is very small, even smaller than DCA, although not bad in any respect. The main attraction seems to be Crush’s Coaster, which is (roughly) the equivalent of the Animal Kingdom’s Primeval Whirl, larger, with actual Disney theming.
A couple of other things: We’re staying at the Adagio City Aparthotel in Serris, about a 25-minute walk from the park entrances. That’s only a few minutes more walk than the farthest Disney hotels, however. Air conditioning in the Disney hotels is not effective, and even though it’s only around 80F most days, Bob’s had to keep his windows open at night. Our hotel does not have A/C, and if I came back in the summer I’d stay elsewhere. At cooler times of the year, however, the Adagio is a great choice: inexpensive, walking distance to the parks, clean, friendly staff and right next to the largest shopping center in Europe.
Finally, at the last minute I balked at taking the RER from the airport to Marrne la Valee, and found Missions Transport. It’s a car service (like Tiffany Towncar or Happy Limo in Orlando), and they’ll wait for you at the arrival gate at the airport and drive you directly to your hotel. For families of three or more staying off-site or at one of the distant Disney hotels, it’s either less expensive or comparable to the RER (Paris’ metro/train service) or shuttle bus, and much, much more convenient. Highly recommended.

The only problem with Paris, that I know of is that my french is so bad that its hard to be understood. And most of the old people in Paris, France for that matter wont really want to understand English. Otherwise Paris is a fantastic city with everything for us tourists. I like it alot.

I don’t speak any French other than ‘bonjour’ or ‘bon matin’ and we have never had any problems on any of the numerous times we have visited.
Thanks for the nice article. But Orlando has always been a favorite place for vacation. And for me its the most beautiful place in Florida. Disneyland, Sea world, Universal Studio all are the attractive spots are here.

Do you have any information about Disney Paris during the Christmas holidays? Is it crowded like Disney World?
Hi, I know I’m not Len but I do travel to DLP often (I’m in UK) and it gets VERY busy at Christmas. Apparently it isn’t so bad early December as all the schools are still in term time. We went at the start of Nov last year and it was crazy busy for the opening of the Enchanted Christmas season.

Thanks for the post. Great information for those of us that haven’t been. Great descriptions!! The comparing and contrasting of the parks is interesting. I love the detail about the seats. ;).
If you do not want to deal with the Paris Metro crowds and the necessary transfers from De Gaulle Airport to Disneyland Paris, the TGV is a good (and fast: about 10-12 minutes) option. It’s not cheap at US$24 right now, but I assume that’s cheaper than a car service. RER is cheapest and slowest, and Len is a wimp for not trying it.
Len, I’d like to hear your take on Discoveryland. I personally thought it was the most beautiful part of the park, and the whole Jules Verne theming was fantastic. Plus SM mission 2 is a *great* coaster.
Oooh – Len make sure you pick up some truffles at Jeff de Bruges in Val d’Europe. GREAT chocolate. I bought enough for myself and to share but I think I STILL shed a little tear the day I ate my last piece of chocolate from there.
Don’t forget this valuable French phrase: Il ya un chat dans mon pantalons.
Hmmm… shouldn’t that valuable French phrase be: Voulez-vous Coucher Avec Moi (ce soir) ? Well, I guess you could use both of those in sequence and see what ya get.
