May has come to a close and the start of the Theme Park Summer (AKA Some Attractions Are Worth Melting For) is upon us. In case you weren’t paying attention, May just happened to be one of the biggest of the year. Star Wars Weekends started, and I even wrote a handy dandy guide on how you can survive it in Six Simple Steps. Universal had a busy month, officially announcing the new King Kong attraction, a partnership with Nintendo that will bring new attractions to the Florida parks, and a brand new ultra-themed water park in Volcano Bay that looks to compete with Disney’s Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon. Meanwhile out in California Disneyland delivered the goods in a major way with their new Paint the Night electrical parade, debuting 60 new pressed pennies, added a new World of Color show, and even a new nighttime fireworks spectacular! Walt Disney World fans weren’t left out in the cold either, as the Lunching Pad at the Magic Kingdom has a brand new crisped rice treat that looks like a flip flop. Everyone came up a winner this month!

Enough jibber jabber! Who is ready to hit the Outlets? Remember that clicking on any picture will open a full size version of it (don’t say we didn’t warn you).

Our first step is checking out the new Tsum Tsums that have arrived, which naturally have become the newest thing I’m addicted to. Here are two of our favorite pals from Toy Story, Woody and Buzz Lightyear.

There were also several puppies from 101 Dalmations along with Cruella Deville.

More Toy Story options including a “The Claw” Alien (which I have been informed by The Powers That Be are named Little Green Men), Lotso, the Peas, and Hamm.

And one last batch of Toy Story 2 characters with Stinky Pete, Woody, Bullseye, and Jessie. And yes, I bought every single one. It’s too late for me, SAVE YOURSELF.

We are smack dab in the middle of Star Wars Weekends, so it was a surprise to see a couple new Star Wars related pillows make their way to the Outlets. Both were originally $24.95 and reduced to $9.99. You better believe I bought the Donald Duck in Carbonite one.

I am a HUGE fan of Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, but was surprised to see the limited edition MagicBands from last year’s event have made it to the Outlet. There were only 5,000 made and they were originally priced at $29.95. They were reduced to $14.99 (and I bought one.)

The only thing I like more at WDW than the Christmas Party is Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, but those limited edition bands also ended up at the Outlet. I was initially floored by this fact, considering only 5,000 of each were made and both parties get more and more guests each year. I may be mistaken, but I think they were also the first “Limited Edition” MagicBands that you could buy (in that there is a set number. I think the “limited release” Haunted Mansion ones are “limited to the amount Disney can sell.”)

Speaking of first time at the Outlets, this Christmas themed specialty MagicBand also arrived. I have no access to Disney’s sales numbers, but I would love to see how MagicBands and their accessories are selling, because all the evidence I can find suggests “not well.” In my experience, the accessories just fall off, and it’s hard to display them so I think you cut down on the amount of people who want to collect them all. The new packaging is definitely a step in the right direction though.

I absolutely LOVED these Radiator Springs Racers pens, however the price was next level bananas. Originally $9.95, these were reduced to $4.99 but you can tell there is very little ink in each. Not sure who the target demo is because you kids would probably immediately lose the themed caps and they just are substantial enough for adults. Love the idea though.

Speaking of Radiator Springs, these postcards featuring Stanley were originally $1.95, now $0.29. I bought one and mailed it to TouringPlans’ own Guy Selga out in Disneyland with a note saying “Hey Mr. Deep Pockets and Short Arms, will you please start buying stuff so we don’t get your JUNK down here. Thanks. With Regards, XX, OO, Derek”

I don’t understand this style of pen at all and I never will.

A whole bunch of new buttons arrived at the Outlet…

These were the ones worth spotlighting. Haunted Mansion, Mickey Mouse, a balloon, and of course the ubiquitous turkey leg.

This pen is perfectly acceptable for young kids. I just can’t get over that original price. That would have been the day when my parents bought me a pen for $6.

Wait, a second. Tinkerbelle?

Every single month I have to Google how to spell “Tinker Bell” so the Disney Grammar Police leave me alone and now I see “Tinkerbelle” is accepted? They need to make Xanax in stronger doses.

Here is one of those antennae toppers. This one is the best representations of what the summer Florida weather is like. IT IS SO HOT DOWN HERE THE SUN ITSELF CAN’T TAKE IT.

I bought a couple of these Mickey Head magnets. Another case of not a bad value at all  at $2 a pop, but you’d have to be sniffing glue to buy them at $6 each.

Earlier this year I did  an Observations piece on Downtown Disney and noticed this Minnie Mouse keychain. Like I said then, I like the design but it seems to fit more in the theme of Universal’s Cabana Bay Beach Resort than anything Disney. Originally $6.95, now $2.99

Ever want replicas of Disney food on your fridge? Originally $12.95 each, these magnets were reduced to $4.99. Good to see the churro here, one of the Six Most Iconic Snacks at the Magic Kingdom, but I’m actually terrified that I don’t see a turkey leg one. That might mean people are buying them.

What is it about flip flops?! As the intro said, one thing Disney debuted this month was a snack shaped like a flip flop and now this. And now that I think about it, there are several flip flop stores at Downtown Disney. I feel like I just woke up in some weird Twilight Zone episode. These were originally $13.95, reduced to $6.99.

Here is a Christmas themed pin featuring the Osborne Spectacle of Dancing Lights, and a Hanukkah one featuring Chip and Dale. This is the first time I have noticed a religious Disney pin, but I will now start keeping an eye out.

There were a TON of these jewelry boxes for sale. Maybe they were being sold for Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day? All contained and earring and necklace set.

Not much for Muppets this month, but there was this awesome Gonzo plush. Originally $24.95, marked down to $12.99.

Here’s an interesting one, a shirt for the Jedi Training Academy. Originally $19.95, now $9.99. You’d think with this and the pillows they could still be selling them for full price during Star Wars Weekends (and maybe they are as well.)

This is an adorable shirt for the Wilderness Lodge featuring Humphrey the Bear. Love it. Originally $24.95, now $12.99.

More resort like this please. This month we did a SATURDAY SIX on Port Orleans Riverside, and I’m looking forward to doing one on the Wilderness Lodge in the future.

I have absolutely no idea what this is. It was with the glass wear so I guess it is one of the weirdest shot glasses of all time.

This Minnie Mouse Colorforms-like set was reduced to $3.99.

With the new name in place, expect more of the old Disney’s Polynesian Resort to appear at the Outlets. I bought this magnet. Reduced to $3.99.

I bought this Tinker Bell magnet set at the Marketplace C0-op at it’s full price of $14.95, but it’s been brought down to $6.99 at the Outlets. It’s drawn by one of my favorite comic book artists, J Scott Campbell, who has done a surprising amount of work for Disney.

It’s A SMall World mini-snow globe. Originally $16.95, reduced to $9.99. Has Disney characters like Peter Pan, Rapunzel, and Pinocchio mixed in.

By now most know how much I hate Disney Vinylmation, but the one set I love is the Park Starz series, and it’s because the artists are allowed to create  whatever they want and aren’t forced to try to make something out of the “Mickey Mold.” While some of the Limited Edition Park Starz have been at the Outlets before, this is the first time I have seen the regular ones. Originally $18.95 each, reduced down to $3.99. I bought two.

I understand these Disney Popcorn Eachez Vinylmation even less than regular Vinylmation. These were originally $19.95 each reduced down to $3.99. I also bought two as I figure they will make cute gifts for the young kids in our family.

Animal Kingdom postcard set. Not a bad value at $2.99.

A couple of new Alice in Wonderland Christmas ornaments arrived, both reduced to $4.99 each.

We’ll close out this month’s shopping excursion with a look at the Donald Duck-as Darth Maul coffee cup. Originally $19.95, reduced to $9.99, this is the greatest cup of all time because it put horns exactly where your hand would be while holding it.

There are actually two Disney outlet stores in Orlando. Both are in Orlando Premium Outlet shopping complexes, and they are called Disney’s Character Warehouse, presumably because The Land Of Misfit Toys was already trademarked. There is one Character Warehouse located on International Drive close to Universal Studios (4951 International Dr, Orlando, FL 32819), and the other is on Vineland Avenue, right across I-4 near the exits to Disney World (8200 Vineland Ave, Orlando, FL 32821). For this edition of MMM, we went to the location near Universal.

I get a lot of questions about this, so we’ll answer them here. You can order any item from the Disney Outlet Stores by calling the WDW Merchandise Guest Services (877-560-6477) There is a catch though, if the item is still available they will charge you full retail price for it, plus shipping. The Outlet Stores themselves do not ship merchandise.
