10 Things About the New Disney Imagination

Did you know there’s a new Wish-class ship that will be sailing out of Japan? We got some new information about it recently, so let’s talk about it!

1. Say Hello to the Disney Imagination – We knew that name was coming, right? There are only so many Disney-fied options out there, and Imagination was bound to happen eventually.

2. It’s Owned by Oriental Land Company – The Oriental Land Company, or the OLC as it’s commonly referred to, is the company that owns and operates Tokyo Disney Resort. Tokyo Disney is an absolutely amazing resort, which means we should be in for a real treat with the Imagination.

3. It Will Sail in 2029 – The Imagination will sail in the Spring of 2029. Coincidentally, it’s one of three Disney ships scheduled to begin sailing that year! The other two will be the first in the brand new, as yet unnamed, class of ships. It’s going to be a busy year for Disney cruisers!

4. Ariel and Sebastian Are On the Stern – Ariel and Sebastian adorn the stern! Ariel is using a “dinglehopper” to paint the name on the stern, while Sebastian holds a shell of paint for her to use. Unlike the Believe, which has a new stern font in the concept art, it seems Ariel’s talents include the ability to paint the traditional DCL font.

5. Cruises Will Sail from Tokyo – The Imagination will sail primarily out of Tokyo. No ports or plans for ports have been announced yet.

6. Itineraries Will Be Short – Itineraries will be short, probably ranging from 2-4 days. That could change at some point, of course.

7. We Have Pricing – Well, we have a range at least! OLC announced a price range of 100,000 yen (around $640) to 300,000 yen (around $1,950) per person. Not too bad?

8. This is Wish 5 – The Imagination is the fifth Wish-class ship. The basic structure of the ship will not change. The theming inside, however, will. Could we see some repeats? Sure! But we should also see a lot of differences.

9. Brace Yourself for Frozen – Fair warning, if you were one of the DCL fans disappointed that Frozen will be featured prominently on the Disney Believe. I’d be shocked if there isn’t a decent amount of Frozen onboard considering the popularity of the Frozen franchise and attractions at Tokyo Disney.

10. We Did Get a Teaser Video to Overanalyze – Several movies were featured in the teaser video, including Frozen, Beauty and the Beast, Dumbo, Fantasia, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, The Little Mermaid, Tangled, The Aristocats, Toy Story, and Zootopia. It’s probably too soon to start assigning those movies to interior spaces, right? Right? Okay, I’ve already started thinking. I’m ready for more clues!

So what else do we not know yet? Will English be the primary language, as it is on all of the other Disney ships? I’m guessing no on that one. Will Duffy take a huge role? Guessing yes on that! Will Figment be onboard? With a name like Imagination, he has to be, right?

What did you think? Will you go to Tokyo to sail?
