Ahoy, mateys! I’m Heather, and I’ll be bringing you the up and coming on all things Disney Cruise Line. Welcome back again this week. Let’s see what’s new in the DCL world.
Ports of Call
Disney Cruise Line: In The News
Last week, the Disney Wonder headed out on the first of 3 Southern Caribbean cruises this month. While all three cruises will sail out of San Juan, Puerto Rico, each itinerary will be slightly different, with some unique ports like Curacao, Aruba, St. Lucia, and for the first time, Bonaire! There is something even more wondrous (see what I did there?) about the blue waters of the Southern Caribbean….show of hands if these are your kind of winter blue! (Me, me, me!)
This week brought some exciting announcements from Adventures by Disney. Guests who are cruising on the Disney Wonder out of the port of San Diego will have the opportunity to add on a land portion with Adventures by Disney. This new 3-night tour will be full of unique behind-the-scenes experiences. You’ll get to be a VIP at Disneyland Resort with a visit to Walt’s apartment, private tours, a visit to the Disney Archives, and more. The amazing Grand Californian Hotel and Spa will be your home during this trip. This Southern California Short Escape will be available in both Spring and Fall of 2018. It’s the perfect way to make a land and sea vacation out of the West Coast cruises. Booking opens on January 25.
It’s absolutely no secret that a Disney Cruise is cramazing (yes, that’s an actual word, I’m sure of it). But shhhhh…..there are some secrets to make your cruise even more cramazing, and Tammy is spilling the beans on some of them! My personal favorite may be #5. Maybe. Ok definitely. So read up on the secrets, and share them with a friend, because sharing is caring!
And finally, this week’s special offers. Most every week of the year, Disney Cruise Line releases special offers for Florida Residents and U.S. Military Personnel. There are also frequently IGT/OGT/VGT rates available for all guests to book. These offers are extremely limited in availability, and all come with certain restrictions, but the prices are amazing! You can book these online, on the phone, or with your travel agent. These are the current offers available this week:
The following films are being shown aboard the Disney Cruise Line ships this month:
- Beauty and the Beast
- Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
- Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales
- Cars 3
- Doctor Strange
- Star Wars: The Force Awakens
- Thor: Ragnarok
- Star Wars: The Last Jedi
For future reference, films debut on Disney Cruise Line the same day of their initial release in the United States. Films do vary by ship. Show times are available in your Personal Navigator or the official Disney Cruise Line app.
Captain’s Log: Important Tips and Information
If you read Tammy’s best secrets blog (and if you didn’t, you should be doing that right now!), you know that you can get a drink card at Cove Cafe. Not familiar with this little slice of caffeinated heaven on the ships? Let’s take a closer look! Cove Cafe is located on Deck 9 of the Disney Magic and the Disney Wonder, and Deck 11 on the Disney Dream and the Disney Fantasy. It’s a lovely grown-up-looking coffee spot, with hardwood floors, wood paneling, couches, televisions, magazines, and more. Another reason this place feels so grown-up? Because it’s only for grown-ups! Yup, you have to be 18 to come in and relax. Drink wise, you can get just about any fancy coffee shop coffee here, along with tea. You can also find some wine and other liqueurs and spirits here – making things like the Espresso Martini an option (a highly recommended option). While the beverages here are an additional charge, there is a delightfully delicious, and free, snack case. Offerings will vary during the day, but you can find things like pastries in the morning, cookies, cakes and fruit in the afternoon, and my personal favorite, meats, cheeses, olives, and bread in the evenings. If you think you’ll be a frequent flyer here during your cruise, get yourself a Cafe Fanatic card as Tammy mentioned. After your first five beverages, your sixth will be free! Do you have a favorite beverage here?
Are you deciding whether to book a Disney Cruise but are having a tough time picking which ship fits all of your desires? Well, our own Laurel Stewart has put together a chart that makes it easy to compare all of the options in one place. Also available as a valuable planning and companion guide from authors Len Testa, Erin Foster, and Laurel Stewart is The Unofficial Guide to the Disney Cruise Line. The companion guide contains a complete overview of each Disney ship as well as Castaway Cay and includes valuable tips on how to save time and money during your cruise!
