Ahoy, mateys! I’m Heather, and I’ll be bringing you the up and coming on all things Disney Cruise Line. Welcome back again this week. Let’s see what’s new in the DCL world!

Ports of Call

Disney Cruise Line: In The News

Now’s the time to book your next Disney Cruise and take advantage of the 50% off deposit offer. Tammy has the top 10 do’s and don’ts you need to know when you are booking.

Marvel Day at Sea sailings kick off on January 6, and Disney Parks Blog has given us a sneak peek at Captain Marvel — catch her on board!

Also starting this week, on cruise ship far, far away (or, just in Port Canaveral) — Star Wars Day at Sea is back on the Disney Fantasy!

Here’s this week’s special offers. Most every week of the year, Disney Cruise Line releases special offers for Florida Residents and U.S. Military Personnel.  There are also frequently IGT/OGT/VGT rates available for all guests to book.  These offers are extremely limited in availability, and all come with certain restrictions, but the prices are amazing! You can book these online, on the phone, or with your travel agent. These are the current offers available this week:

Upcoming Entertainment

The following films are being shown aboard the Disney Cruise Line ships this month:

  • Star Wars: The Last Jedi
  • Avengers: Infinity War
  • Solo: A Star Wars Story
  • Incredibles 2
  • Ant-Man and The Wasp
  • Christopher Robin
  • The Nutcracker and the Four Realms
  • Ralph Breaks the Internet
  • Mary Poppins Returns

For future reference, films debut on Disney Cruise Line the same day of their initial release in the United States. Films do vary by ship. Show times are available in your Personal Navigator or the official Disney Cruise Line app.

Captain’s Log: Important Tips and Information

Is your New Year’s Resolution to eat healthy in 2019? Well if you are sailing on the Dream or the Fantasy, you may want to put that on hold. For on these two ships awaits every sweet tooth’s dream – Vanellope’s Sweets and Treats (Dream) and Sweet on You (Fantasy). These shops are the antithesis of healthy eating, but hey, it’s vacation so it’s okay, right?

Neither sweet shop was original to the ship. Vanellope’s was added in a 2015 refurbishment, and Sweet on You came in 2017. Both shops took over what was previously the arcade on deck 11.

Both shops offer bulk and prepackaged candy, and a wide assortment of baked goods and specialty sweets. You’ll find everything from truffles to cake pops to brownies to apples to cupcakes and every bit covered in chocolate and sprinkles and any other type of sugar possible!

Perhaps the star of the shop is the ice cream and gelato. With approximately 16 ice cream options and and 20 gelato options, the hard part here is narrowing it down! There are always some perennial favorites, like French vanilla or mint chocolate chip, but the real magic comes from the gelato. With options like Candy Explosion, Tiramisu, and Oreo Cookies ’n’ Cream just to name a few, you’ll pretty much get a sugar rush just reading over the options.

Before you get too worried about your caloric intake, keep in mind that all the items in both shops are an additional charge. Because unlimited gelato may not indeed be a good thing, right?

ProTip: you can stop in the shop during the day and order a sundae (or two) that can be delivered to your dining room at dinner time!

Have you visited either shop yet? What is your favorite treat?

Imy mom and I have been to both shops. We pretty much go every day as a late afternoon snack. We love the cupcakes. I think between us we have tried them all at Sweet On You. We also love the blondie and I love trying the different gelato flavors. You really can’t go wrong. Everything is amazing and very reasonably priced. Much less than a similiar item at the theme parks.
