Ask It: Disney Cruise without Castaway Cay?

Ah, there’s very little in the world that beats a Disney Cruise for rest and relaxation. One of the highlights for cruises that hit the Caribbean or the Bahamas is a stop at Castaway Cay. This tropical paradise is a hideaway with gentle breezes, crystal blue waters, and fun in the sun. It is part of the reason why some people pay a premium for a Disney cruise. While other cruise lines may have their own cruise line-owned getaways, Castaway Cay certainly has its own fans.

Although there are plenty of amazing Disney cruises that don’t stop at Castaway Cay (such as cruises to Alaska or around Europe), and even though there are times when docking at Castaway Cay is not possible due to weather conditions, we’re wondering if a discount on a Disney Cruise would be worth it if that cruise skipped Castaway Cay. Our question this week is:

If you could book a Caribbean/Bahamas Disney Cruise at a discount of 20-30% off, but that cruise did NOT include a stop at Castaway Cay, would you book that cruise?

  • Our cruise from Jan 2-5 did not stop because of high winds. The capt tried 3 times and was unsuccessful. I was ok with that as it was quite windy on the decks as well. Even with over 4000 people onboard we enjoyed the amenities. NOTE we were 3 adults with no kids with us and still enjoyed it!

  • Castaway is a once-and-done for me. It would be better if it offered more than just beaches, but the island is terribly barren. I would jump at the chance for a discount if it meant foregoing Castaway, but NOT if it’s replaced with another day at sea.

  • Disney cruises are normally priced at a premium so saving a few dollars is worth it.

  • Bahamas- NO! Caribbean- Yes

  • Luv the bbg feast they put on.. grandkids luv the beaches & the turquoise clear water .

  • We just took a Caribbean cruise on the Wonder out of Galveston and there was no stop at Castaway Cay. Though we would have loved a stop there, we have to say this was still our best Disney Cruise ever. This was a full 7 night sailing with stops in Cozumel, Grand Cayman, and Falmouth. We’ve been to the same ports on another line and Disney did it so much better. So I don’t really think they will discount Caribbean cruises that don’t stop Castaway Cay and I really wouldn’t expect it.

  • I would love to go on a Disney Cruise. However, I get incredibly sea sick – don’t go on most of the attractions at WDW due to motion sickness – so I had to vote no. Wil just have to keep on hitting those parks!

  • I enjoy Castaway Cay day as it empties the ship. Not a beach person so when husband finishes the 5K on the island we retreat to the ship and enjoy the quiet.

  • Would love a Disney Cruise with 20-30% off. Doubt that would evr happen though. The cruise alone is awesome and worth staying on the ship, so not going to castaway cay would be ok.
