Hollywood Studios is Retro Cool for the Holidays
The Magic Kingdom decor gets all the glory at Christmas. I get it; the red ribbons, toy soldiers, and lush greenery are a Norman Rockwell painting come to life. It truly is lovely, but (controversial opinion ahead) I prefer the Christmas decor at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
The midcentury colors and design elements evoke the feel of the holiday TV specials of my youth: A Charlie Brown Christmas and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. Back in the days before even VHS tapes were a thing (gasp!), those specials could only be viewed once a year on live TV. The annual viewing of the tinsel-laden trees on Snoppy’s preferred shopping spot and watching the smiling stop motion reindeer of Rudolph were evanescent moments of childhood glee for me.
The retro stylings of Hollywood Studios at Christmas bring me right back to those pure moments of childhood anticipation of the holiday to come. So keep your Currier and Ives evergreens over on Main Street USA, I’m gonna stay right here in Hollywoodland and enjoy the silver sparkles and pink poodles.
And as an added bonus, check out our video footage of the holiday decorations!
I am sad I can’t see them in person. Really adore the vintage decorations! Thanks for the pictures and video.
I’m with you, these are adorable.
