Additional Star Wars Experiences Headed to Disneyland and Disney’s Hollywood Studios

While Disney announced today that Star Wars Land will be coming to both Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disneyland, because these lands are ambitious and will take some time to create, they also released some additional events that will occur to add #hype. These things will take place in the interim so guests can experience more of the Force.

First, for those of you who love Star Tours: The Adventures Continue, you will need to head over to the parks by the end of this year to experience a new adventure. You see, Star Tours will be updated to include a chance to experience a new world and new characters that will be prominently featured in Star Wars VII. Keep in mind, the attraction will still offer random ride sequences, so you won’t be able to predict when you’ll see the new scenes. Guess that just means you’ll have to keep riding!

In addition, the Jedi Training Academy will see some extra additions on both coasts, including new story lines and characters. (Including a new villain to battle from the popular Disney XD series “Star Wars Rebels.”)

Also, later this year at both parks, Disney will introduce the Star Wars Launch Bay. This will be an interactive experience where guests will be taken into the world of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, as well as into the first six films of the Star Wars saga. It will allow guests to interact with their favorite characters; explore exhibits of props, costumes and art work of the upcoming live action and animated series; and play the latest games. Oh and of course, there will be special merchandise and food options! You will also be able to experience custom content only available in both of those locations.

Star Wars Launch Bay will be able to be found in the Animation Courtyard at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and in Tomorrowland at Disneyland.

Oh and for those of you who are Marvel fans, at Disneyland, you’ll want to head over to the newly re-imagined Super Hero HQ, which will feature opportunities to meet and take photos with super heroes like Captain America and Thor, as well as experience the returning Iron Man Tech Presented by Stark Industries. This new Super Hero HQ will share a space with the Star Wars Launch Bay.

Finally, a new seasonal event will occur beginning in early 2016 at both parks called Season of the Force. This will be limited time events on both coasts that have been created based on the success of Star Wars Weekends. The event is slated to amp up the Star Wars experience.

There will be advanced character experiences; limited time food, drink, and merchandise opportunities; and great new location specific entertainment content. For example, when guests will explore Tomorrowland at Disneyland, they will get to experience Hyperspace Mountain – a re-imagining of the classic Space Mountain attraction where guests will join an X-wing Starfighter battle featuring new digital projections, new soundtrack, and new special effects. Over at Disney’s Hollywood Studios there will be a new fireworks spectacular set to the iconic score of the Star Wars movies on weekend nights.

Star Wars fans have a lot to be excited about and I look forward to sharing additional details with you in the upcoming months.

  • I’m planning a trip in December the same weekend The Force Awakens opens. Hope Star Tours and the Launch Bay are ready by then.

  • Why does Disneyland get all the cool overlays.

  • I have to wonder if Star Wars Weekends’ days are numbered now that there are plans to have a huge Star Wars presence 24/7/365.

  • So is Season of the Force a replacement for Star Wars weekends, or in addition to?

    • Honestly, I couldn’t tell from the way Disney was announcing it and is one of the questions that I have about the event.
