Disney Confirms Opening Season for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge on Both Coasts

Last night, via the Disney Parks Blog, Disney confirmed the opening season for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and it was what we had been suspecting.

As had been previously thought, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will open first on the west coast at the Disneyland Resort in the summer of 2019. Then, a few months later, the new land will open at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in the late fall of 2019.

In addition, Disney also shared a great glimpse at the new land through this trailer:

For those who don’t know, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will include two attractions. The first is a an ride featuring the Millennium Falcon where you will actually be able to pilot it. During the second attraction, Guests will find themselves in a battle between the resistance and the First Order.

The hard part is now, is all the speculation on the largest single-themed land expansions ever. When will these lands actually open? While I have my own theories, we’re just going to have to wait to find out more in the future.

  • Disneyland’s summer date could be any of these: Memorial Weekend (start of Dland’s summer season), Summer’s start (Friday, June 21, 2019), or July 17th, Disneyland’s birthday.

WDW’s late fall date could be: October 1st (WDW’s birthday), early November (fall season at WDW usually starts after Labor Day), or Thanksgiving weekend (fall runs Sept 23, – Dec 21, 2019). By the way, Hurricane season is mid May through the end of Nov. Most of them show up between Aug & Oct, so the storms, rain, etc could potentially impact the huge crowds and any ride closures/breakdowns, etc.

  • were going to miss this! my husband is devastated we’re going late Aug 19.

  • I suspect “late fall” indicates somewhere closer to Thanksgiving, whereas “summer” will be a July 4th opening. Based on the Pandora: World of Avatar experience, which continues to draw heavy crowds a year in, despite being based on a significantly less popular IP, I would hazard a guess that SW:GE is going to be insanely crowded well into the 50th anniversary season (which will itself draw huge crowds).

  • What would you class as late fall? We were planning a trip for the very end of October/start of November next year, do you think it will be open by then or opening at that time? Would love to go, but also don’t really want to be there for the opening week or anything because…crowds!

    • I’m in the same situation. But i guess the earlier openening in California tend to reduce the crowds influx in Florida.
