Disney Cruise Line in a Jiffy: What is Door Decor?
When you sail on Disney Cruise Line, you’ll notice that many guests have personalized decor adorning their stateroom doors. This door decor is 100% optional (you are NOT in any way required to do this), but many guests find that creating door decor is a fun project to get them in the vacation spirit and can be helpful on the ship to differentiate their room from the others in a lengthy hallway.
The doors on DCL ships are made of metal and thus are receptive to magnets. That said, some of the doors to concierge-level staterooms are covered with a wood veneer that makes them less magnetic. If you’re sailing concierge, door decor may not be for you. And while magnets are great, guests are not allowed to adhere things to their door with tape, glue, or clingy materials. Any damage to the door or the cleaning of any sticky residue will be charged to the guest.

Door decor can range from one or two simple images to elaborate themed displays related to the ship, the port destinations, a holiday or event, or to family celebrations. Some guests create their own door decor with supplies found at home, others enlist professional help from Etsy sellers who specialize in magnet making. My family is partial to decorating our stateroom doors with magnetic poetry kits, so that other guests can leave us fun messages.
