Disney Cruise Line in a Jiffy: What is the Pelican Plunge?

A large percentage of Disney Cruise Line voyages stop at Disney’s first private island, Castaway Cay. There’s plenty to do on the island, but one favorite activity, particularly for tweens and teens, is the Pelican Plunge water slide. Pelican Plunge is located at about the midway point of the family beach, close to the Pelican Point tram stop.

This feature is comprised of two slides and a water dump feature located on a 2,400 square foot, free-floating structure in the water. You have to swim out to the slide structure. One slide is an enclosed tube and the other is a traditional open slide. There is a height requirement of 38″ to slide, so Pelican Plunge is not for the littlest littles. Guests between 38″ and 48″ may slide, but they must wear a free life vest while doing so. Also note that tandem sliding is not allowed.

A lifeguard is stationed on a nearby floating dock.

Disney Cruise Line in a Jiffy is an offshoot of our “Disney in a Minute” posts. Both are bite-sized nuggets of information that can better help you understand a Disney term or planning topic, but here we’ll be focused on all things Disney Cruise Line (DCL).
