Disney in a Minute: What is a Pontoon Boat?
We’re here with a series of quick posts, “Disney in a Minute,” bite-sized nuggets of information that can better help you understand a Disney term or planning topic. Enjoy!
If you’re looking for recreational activities at Walt Disney World, you’re likely to come across the term “pontoon boat.” Pontoon boats are somewhat the opposite of speed boats. They are motorized, but they’re meant for leisurely meandering rather than racing. These vessels have a flat deck situated atop two roundish metal tubes, called pontoons. When I grew up near a lake in Maine we called these party boats, which is mostly what you need to know about them in the Disney context.
Disney uses pontoon boats in several ways:
- Rentals for General Recreation. Groups of up to 10 guests may rent a pontoon boat. Grab some frosty beverages and explore the Disney waterways. General rentals are available at the Contemporary, Grand Floridian, and Yacht & Beach Club resorts. Reservations are not required
- Fishing Excursions. Up to five guests can take a bass fishing trip with an experienced guide. Expeditions include rod, reel, and bait. Fishing departures are from the Caribbean Beach, Contemporary, Grand Floridian, Old Key West, Port Orleans Riverside, Wilderness Lodge, Fort Wilderness, and Yacht & Beach Club resorts. For pricing and to make reservations, call 407-939-3474.
- Fireworks cruises. Take in the Magic Kingdom or EPCOT fireworks from a chartered boat with up to 10 guests. They’ll provide snacks and festive banners and balloons if you’re having a celebration. Magic Kingdom fireworks departures are from the Contemporary, Polynesian, Grand Floridian, Wilderness Lodge, and Fort Wilderness resorts. EPCOT fireworks departures are from the Yacht & Beach Club. For more information or to make reservations call 407-939-7529.
