Disney in a Minute: What is the Boardwalk?
The Boardwalk at Walt Disney World is a district located between EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Styled after a turn-of-the-century Atlantic seaside resort, there are places to stay and eat as well as things to do and entertainment to enjoy. Complete with a boardwalk (hence the name!), striped awnings, vintage signs, and other charming touches, it offers a festive atmosphere with old-timey charm.
There are several places to stay right along the Boardwalk. The namesake Disney’s BoardWalk Inn is a Deluxe Resort with elegant rooms and waterfront views. Connected to it are the Boardwalk Villas, a DVC spot. Nearby options include other Deluxe Resorts accessible via walking paths or boats: Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, Beach Club Resort, and the Swan and Dolphin Hotels. These hotels are known collectively as the Crescent Lake resorts.
Dining options range from quick service spots to fine dining. On the Boardwalk, you can enjoy ice cream, corn dogs, stop in at the Cake Bake Shop, or enjoy a leisurely Italian meal at Trattoria al Forno. For upscale dining, Flying Fish features gourmet seafood in an elegant setting.
Shopping is more boutique-y and adds to the atmosphere. Screen Door General Store offers food and spirits along with some Disney merch. Thimbles & Threads has Disney apparel and accessories, while Wyland Galleries offers artwork and collectibles.
There’s plenty to do here beyond eating and shopping. You can rent a 2- or 4-person surrey bike for a fun ride around the lake. Or take a leisurely stroll – in the late afternoon and the evening, you’ll find street performers. At night, dance your heart out at Atlantic Dance Hall, or catch EPCOT fireworks from just across the lake. You can also take a boat or walk to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios; both are within easy reach.
In all, the Boardwalk is a special place, filled with the spirit of Disney magic. It’s a delightful blend of nostalgia, fun, and Disney charm. Best of all, you don’t need a park ticket to enjoy a little entertainment, great dining, or a relaxing evening by the water.
