Disney Releases Schedule For August

We’re on the on road this week doing some field work in California for the Unofficial Guide to Disneyland. We’ll process the newly posted park schedules and adjust the August crowd calendar where needed. Expect updates to be live on the site by next Wednesday, once we get back.

  • You can also get August 31 by clicking on the August 29 date from the monthly view, then hitting “Next Day” twice. I had to do this to update my AK site.
This new calendar is really hit-or-miss. The programming seems to be very buggy, although it’s improved a bit since the launch earlier this year. I’ve had to use the monthly view for parsing because they keep changing the format of the daily and next-10-days pages.

  • Thanks bobaloo000! Does anyone else think it’s odd that the UK/Canada site is easier and more accurate than the US?

    • No, I am not amazed, I’m shocked. Not only is it easier, but they actually had the times posted a few days before the US site. Nothing with Disney and Web should amaze me. Go to ESPN.COM and you have one of the most comprehensive sports information web sites in the world that is also a very nice complement to the ESPN TV stations and ESPN the magazine. It is fairly easy to navigate, and if your looking for something specific it should only take a few clicks. Now contrast that to Disney.Com and explain to me how these two sites could be run by the same parent company? Night and Day. Disney.com may be the worst web site I’ve ever encountered for a major corporation. It is slow, it is not intuitive and it has way to many bells and whistles that are useless. The unfriendly park calendar is just one of many problems. Try to navigate through the site to get quotes for an upcoming trip! It’ll make you want to go someplace else.

Of course I have another problem when I go to the UK site. Those wonderful offers that we don’t get in the US. Currently they are offering free dining and a buy 7 days get 14 day premium free promotion and you can combine them! Oh, and they run from 8/2 to 12/17. Oh, and you can upgrade them to 21 days if you like. Makes me want to move to England.

I agree! I’ve always looked for non-official WDW sites to get info like maps, restaurant and hotel information, etc. and only go to their site as a last resort.

Kind of weird for a media company to have a snafu’d web site.

I don’t know about the .ca and .uk sites but if they are better, I speculate that it’s because sometimes branch offices are more focused and less distracted by HQ internal bureaucracy and politics. Disney HQ might be trying so hard to make their central web page impressive, with lots of disagreement among the heavy hitters over what “impressive” means, that they’ve lost their way. As companies get bigger and bigger their HQ nerve centers frequently become blind and deaf to what their customers are saying. Synergy and economies of scale only get you so far, and then entropy takes over.

No. Disney IT has proven over (and over and over) that they are incompetent. New ADR system? Months late, and still hideous bugs when released. New domestic web site? Didn’t have a functioning calendar for months.

God help us all when ADRs can be made online.

  • Looks like the US Disney Web Masters forgot that August 31 is in AUGUST! However, if you need times for 8/31 got to the UK site, http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdwi/en_GB/calendar/parkhours/calendarHome?id=MKCalendarParkHoursMonthlyViewPage&date=20090801
Now this being Disney there is more confusion. The US site has the Extra Magic Hours for August, the UK site does not. They have the days for EMH but not the times, and yes I did click on the link in the calendar. I even refreshed my screen 😉
