Do you have questions about Disney Cruise Line? Starting today, May 1, we will be blogging live from the Disney Dream. Ask your questions in the comments – anything from can you post today’s Personal Navigator to what’s on the menu at Animator’s Palate tonight – and we will be happy to get you answers. We’re going to be on the Dream for seven nights, a back to back 3-night, followed by a 4-night. The cruise stops at Nassau and Castaway Cay on each sailing.
We’ll start a new article each day, so keep checking back!

Would you be able to post pictures of all the menus? Thanks!
Yes. They should go up tomorrow after we take them tonight.
Would you post pics of the champagne menu at Pink? We were there a few weeks ago and neglected to write down the name of the champagne we really liked. Thanks!
When doing a back to back as you are, do you keep the same servers for the entire cruise? How does it impact your dining schedule? What procedure do you need to follow on the intial disembarking (i.e. do you have to waste a lot of time getting off at Port Canaveral and getting back on)?
I can tell you in 3 days. We’ve never done a back to back before.
Tell me about the rooms. Verandah vs. interior stateroom. Does a family of 4 “need” the verandah, like I’m trying to convince my hubby?
A family of 4 needs all the space it can get. If you must do only one stateroom, get one with the words Deluxe Family in it (inside or outside – it’s a little bigger), but I’d strongly recommend pricing 2 inside cabins instead of a single cabin if your kids are old enough to sleep in their own room. To put it in perspective, prisoners are allowed 60 square feet of space per person. The largest non-suite stateroom (cat 4) has 299 sq ft. An inside regular has 169 (inside deluxe has 204).
We are a family of 4 (kids 11 and 13) do fine in the Disney staterooms. We had a Family stateroom one time and regular one’s all the other times and didn’t have any trouble. We have done other cruise lines though and were very tight. I think it depends on whether money or space are more important to you. We’d rather have the extra money to do more excursions.
How soon do you know your specific restaurant rotation? For an upcoming short cruise, we want to make Palo reservations but don’t want to miss Animator’s Palate.
You find out when you board.
Because you can make Palo reservations long before your actual sailing date, I assumed Palo would be completely booked by the time we board. Any way around this, or do we just have to wait to board and see when we’re scheduled for Animator’s Palate and then hope Palo has openings on the other nights?
You don’t have to change your Palo reservation if it’s the same night as Animator’s Palette. Just go to Guest Services and ask for a different dining rotation so it will fall on a different day. You’ll have a much better chance of being able to do that than change Palo.
They load the rotations the day before your cruise so you are best to call DCL a week before. We have done this every cruise and we ask for which rotation we want and we have always had them given.
Two questions…What is there to do on the ship while it’s in port at Nassau – what is open/available and what is not? (We didn’t really like Nassau and the expensive Atlantis excursions.) Also, how early do you need to get to the Castaway Cay family beaches to get front row lounge chairs/umbrellas? (The cabanas are always sold out.) Thanks!
Non of the shops are open while the ship is in port, but the pools, restaurants, movies, and spas are open. It’s a great time to do the AquaDuck/Dunk.
The beach starts to fill about an hour after you are able to leave the ship. I’d eat breakfast early at Cabanas (like before 8) and plan to get off the ship as soon as it’s cleared if a front row if important to you.
Do they offer the Castaway Cay 5k on the 4-day itinerary? Thanks!
Yes on any itinerary that stops on Castaway Cay.
Besides the regular fab 5 and the usual princesses, what other characters are on the 4 night cruise? My kids really want to see: Woody, Buzz, Anna & Elsa. Are they there? Thanks!
We’ll post the ships schedules each day.
We’re on the 3 night night now.
Can you grab me some of the free H2O products? 🙂
Did you know you only get shower gel if you’re in Concierge?
Please let us know if you find Anna and/or Elsa are on board!
They’re not on the schedule, but maybe they’re with the princesses this morning.
Which movies are currently playing in the theater?
Muppets, Frozen (3D and not), DisneyNature Bears, Capt. America, Need for Speed.
Doing a B2B in january. Was wondering if we bring mask and snorkle can we rent just the fins for a lesser cost than renting all the gear on Castaway Cay.
Like the blogs keep up the great work.
That’s exactly what we did a few weeks ago!
