Way back in August 2024 (OK, that’s only 3 months ago), Disney announced that land themed to Monsters Inc. was coming to Hollywood Studios. Today we know that it’s taking over Muppets Courtyard. Details on this announcement were a bit skimpy, but here’s what we know.

The bad news: MuppetVision 3D is closing to make way for the Monsters Inc. land. Now, that’s maybe a bad news / good news kind of thing, because Monsters Inc. land should be pretty great. It will have the previously announced Door Coaster based on the iconic scene in the door vault from the Monsters Inc. film. And it will have dining, shopping, and an all-new theater show.

The good news: you’ll still find Muppets in Hollywood Studios, as they’re heading over to Rock’n’Roller Coaster to take over from Aerosmith. According to Disney, the Muppets will be “teaming up with some of music’s biggest stars for a rockin’ music festival!”

No closing dates have been announced yet, although Disney has previously indicated that work on the Monsters Land would begin in 2025.

Disney is well aware that the Muppets have a devoted following, and MuppetVision 3D is one of the last projects that Jim Henson worked on. They’ve already announced that “As we move forward with these changes, we are having creative conversations and exploring ways to preserve the film and other parts of the experience for fans to enjoy in the future.” That covers a lot of possibilities, and it doesn’t mean that we’ll see MuppetVision 3D relocated somewhere else in the parks. But it will be interesting to see what it does mean.

Did you predict that the new Monsters Inc. land would go into Muppets Courtyard instead of Animation Courtyard? What are your thoughts about the Muppets closing? Let us know in the comments!
