New Options and Perks for runDisney Events

Many of you are getting ready for the Star Wars – The Dark Side Half Marathon next weekend. (Who’s ready to run 13.1 miles?) Well, I have recently come across a few tidbits that may help to make your runDisney experience this month just a little bit better.

First, Disney is allowing those people who cannot make it to the Expo before their race to purchase the ability to retrieve your race packet (bib number, race shirt and any pre-purchased merchandise) the day of your scheduled race. Runners can pick up their packets at the VIP Packet Pick-Up Tent. A photo ID and signed waiver is required and must be picked up by the registered runner. The cost for this perk is $39 per race registration and you will need to register for the service here. Do keep in mind that this is only available to a limited number of people, so if you absolutely have to, you can take advantage of this option now.

Second, for those who liked purchasing their race photos, you now have one more reason to buy Memory Maker! You see, Disney’s PhotoPass photographers will now be the ones on the course photographing runners. PhotoPass photographers will not only be catching runners on the course, but they will also be there photographing runners with the characters, as well as at backdrop locations. All PhotoPass photos will be linked to your bib number, so you won’t have to associate your photos with your MagicBand or pick up a PhotoPass card.

Guests will be able to view and purchase photos at MyDisneyPhotoPass.com or on the My Disney Experience app within 24 hours of the race. If you are sure you want all of your race photos ahead of time, consider pre-purchasing Memory Maker, that way you can save money (the pre-purchase price is $149 versus the regular price of $169) and you can make sure to stop at PhotoPass photographers throughout your vacation to maximize your photographic value. In addition, those runners who have the Premier Passport or Disney Platinum Plus, Disney Platinum or Disney Gold Annual Pass will automatically be able to download their photos as part of their benefits.

Star Wars – The Dark Side race weekend is almost here…just one week to go. Who’s ready to run?

  • Thanks for sharing this! My husband was trying to figure out how he was going to squeeze in packet pick-up with his late arrival, so he just registered. I hope it works smoothly…

  • I wonder what the selling of race morning packet pickup means for people like my boyfriend who had flight issues and misses the expo? Previously Disney allowed him (off the record) to pick up his bib race morning and they mailed him a running shirt (it was a size too big because they ran out of his size, but it was still a nice thought). Will they now charge $39 to do this, or unless you purchase this option in advance are you out of luck if something unexpected happens?

    • Sarah I had this same question because my husband’s flight arrives after the expo clises Friday so I called runDisney and asked. I was told he will still be able to pick up his bib the morning of the race without having to pay and then we just have to go to the expo to get his shirts after.

  • 2 questions: Is photo pass for all Run Disney races now including Wine and Dine? Second, will I be able to download race pics of my friends and family from MDE like regular memory maker photos? Thanks! These answers will decide if I upgrade to AP
