REVIEW: Eats and Treats at the 2024 Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party

Halloween treats at Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party are one of the highlights, but there are so many to choose from! Never fear, TouringPlans is here! Our parks team tried just about everything from both the MNSSHP and the all-day Halloween menus in the Magic Kingdom. Read on below to see where to eat and where to beat feet at Disney World’s premier Halloween event.

A couple of notes before we get started. First, we have got to give props to Disney’s culinary teams, we thought many of the dishes looked much more like their cute promo pictures than we saw in prior years. Second: when you can buy. Party-exclusive food at carts and kiosks goes on sale at 7 pm when the party starts. At locations with doors (Cosmic Ray’s, Pecos Bill’s, etc.) you can enter with a party wristband at 6 pm and place an in-person order at the counter. Mobile Order for party-exclusive items at Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party turns on at 7 pm.

There is a ton of party food this year, so if you’re looking for the TL;DR, here it is at the top (but please keep reading anyway). For all-day menus, the Plaza Restaurant is kicking Casey’s Corner’s rear. And for party-exclusive food, most of it’s a winner (except everything at Pinocchio Village Haus which is a big skip) but the Friar’s Nook has the gold medal.

All-Day Halloween Food

Although a smattering of other locations have a Halloween item or two, you’ll find full Halloween menus at Casey’s Corner and the Plaza Restaurant. We recommend you make a reservation for the Plaza, as we much preferred their Halloween food to Casey’s.

The Plaza Restaurant

  • Ghoulishly Gourmet Burger – $25.00
Two all-beef patties with pepper jack and Swiss cheese, candied bacon, balsamic-glazed mushrooms, onion ring, and truffle-buffalo aïoli served on a black bun
  • Halloween Turkey Club – $19.00
Turkey club with bacon on black sandwich bread
  • Graveyard Milk Shake – $8.50
Chocolate milk shake with a dipped graveyard jelly doughnut, white chocolate tombstone, gummy candy, and a Haunted Mansion straw
  • Layered Pumpkin Cake – $10.00
    with cream cheese mousse

We know the fries come with everything but they are perfect. It needs to be said. The burger was our absolute favorite and we’d go back to get this just for the candied bacon. Add in onions, cheese, and especially the scrumptious truffle-buffalo aioli and WOW! We’ve got a winner. The turkey club was a classic done right, no complaints. The pumpkin cake was more of a spice cake, but that didn’t bother us in the least and it’s plenty big enough to share. The shake was the only miss of the bunch; it was far too sweet.

Casey’s Corner

Casey’s is celebrating the fall festivities with special menu items topped with Chipotle Barbecue Pork and Street Corn. You can get it on Fries ($7.79), your choice of dogs ($14.79 / $15.79), or mini corn dogs ($10.79). We weren’t fans. All of the individual elements were nice, but together it was just a mess.

Carts & Kiosks

  • Aloha Isle: DOLE Whip Mango and Chamoy Float – $7.29
  • Churro Cart near Cinderella Castle: Worms ‘n Dirt Churro – $7.25
  • Aunty Gravity’s Galactic Goodies: Candy Corn Soft-serve Sundae – $7.79

This Dole Whip float is sublime and we could eat it all day long. The churro on the other hand is a definite skip. It wasn’t awful, but there was absolutely nothing worthy about it. The candy corn sundae will definitely exceed your food coloring and sugar allowances for the day, but it was a perfect bite of Halloween season. It’s far better than you’d think.

MNSSHP Party-Exclusive Food

Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe

  • Halloween Pot Roast Sandwich – $12.99
with cheddar and horseradish mayonnaise served on a black bun
  • Terrifyin’ Twice-spiced Chicken Sandwich – $13.29
Spicy fried chicken breast dipped in hot honey topped with pepper jack cheese, jalapeño poppers, and bacon
  • Sinister Satay Burger – $13.79
Cocoa-rubbed all-beef patty with bacon, lime pickles, and Thai peanut sauce
  • Witches Fingers – $6.49
Purple cookie fingers with sour apple mousse and green apple boba pearls
  • Ube Green Tea Slushy – $6.49
with cherry whipped cream, cinnamon candies, and chocolate piece

The chicken is like an appetizer sampler platter on a bun, and even spice weenies won’t find the jalapeño popper overpowering. The pot roast was a reminder that fall is coming (even though temps are still in the 80s), and it was so nice dig into this heavier, heartier dish that felt like a nod to the changing seasons. Now for the burger: we loved the flavor, and we hope they don’t give up on this grouping; lime pickles and Thai peanut sauce should be everywhere. Alas, our burger itself was dry as the dusty grave.

Our table was divided on the Witches Fingers and the slushy. If you like the flavors, you should probably get these; members of our group spoke highly of the cherry whipped cream on the slushy and the mousse on the fingers. Especially make sure to get a complete bite with all three components on the Witches Fingers to get the intended kick from the pucker/sweet contrast.

The Friar’s Nook

  • Spicy Pork Spring Roll – $8.99
with charred pineapple and scallion dust
  • Bowl of Bones – $13.49
Bone-In piggy wings fried with fresh jalapeños and tossed in Coca-Cola Cherry barbecue sauce
  • Buffalo Chicken Hand Pie – $9.99
Buffalo chicken and mozzarella wrapped in a flaky dough and topped with blue cheese crumbles and buffalo-ranch
  • S’mores Cup – $5.99
Layers of graham cracker crumbles, chocolate ganache, chocolate popping candies, milk chocolate panna cotta, and marshmallow cream (available all day)

If you only stop at one place for party food, this should maybe be the one. The pictures are not the most appetizing, and our hand pie definitely didn’t have the decorative drizzle of sauce like the one pictured on the menu. But we could honestly not decide whether this or the Bowl of Bones was our favorite. The Coca-Cola Cherry BBQ sauce was so good we had it up to our wrists, and we thought it was so worth the price that we got a second one because we didn’t want to share. The hand pie was a bit on the spicy side and if you are a spice wimp you will maybe feel like your mouth is a bit on fire. But it’s that good buffalo heat plus a bit of vinegary bite and a hint of relief from the ranch and cheese – so, so good.

The S’mores cup is super-cute and definitely looks like its glamour shot on the menu. It’s not fancy, but it’s tasty and it’s definitely enough to share. The spring roll was our least favorite, but easily good enough to get again, and the scallion dust is a good way to sneaky-expand your kids’ palates.

Bonus of the Friar’s Nook: it’s close to several rides and has excellent viewing of the Fireworks if you’re willing to take the Fantasyland view. And there’s plenty of seating later in the night.

Pinocchio Village Haus

  • Creepy Clam Flatbread – $13.79
with bacon, black ink pesto, Romano, and Calabrian chile aïoli
  • Spicy Meatball Arrabbiata Flatbread – $13.29
Meatballs, spicy tomato sauce, provolone, Calabrian chiles, and basil pesto
  • Sweet and Spicy Chicken Strips – $9.99
tossed in Korean barbecue sauce and topped with black sesame seeds, fried garlic, and green onions
  • Swinging Wake Cake – $5.49
Vanilla cake with fruity cereal mousse
  • Boo Raspberry Slushy – $6.29
Blue raspberry slushy with marshmallow foam and a marshmallow ghost

Oh Pinocchio’s, you disappoint us so. The slushy was huge and adorable, and the marshmallow foam could be a new addition to every sweet treat in WDW and life would be good. But the rest of the menu … we like so many of these ingredients, but these dishes were not good. The best of the bunch was the chicken strips … at least they had some flavor, even if the sauce didn’t taste anywhere near as interesting as the description would have you believe. If you do decide to stop at Pinocchio’s avoid the Creepy Clam Flatbread at all costs; you probably won’t finish chewing before the party is over.

Sleepy Hollow

  • Hand-dipped Corn Dog – $10.29
with spicy violet mustard and spicy cheese-flavored snacks
  • Char Siu Chicken Wings – $11.49
Glazed whole chicken wings topped with chili threads and garlic
  • Madame Leota Séance Candle – $5.99
Red velvet cake and cookies and cream mousse
  • Dulce de Leche, Peanut Butter, and Chocolate Sauce Funnel Cake – $8.99
Topped with dulce de leche ice cream, SNICKERS Bar Pieces, and whipped cream

The spicy mustard on the corn dog was nice, and everyone knows these are the only corn dogs you should eat in the Magic Kingdom (our apologies to Casey’s, but we said what we said). The hot cheetos were an awkward note, but you can easily brush them off. We can’t quite put our finger on it, but the chicken wings just somehow look evil. MNSSHP is not R-rated, but these feel like you’re straight in the middle Halloweentown just casually walking around with pterodactyl wings in sauce. We’d love to see this sauce on chicken tenders elsewhere and available all day long.

Then there’s the funnel cake. By far our favorite item here, this thing is for sure big enough for 4. Whatever other issues Sleepy Hollow has during parties (cramped prep room, long lines, etc) they know how to churn out a nice funnel cake. Lovely.

The seance candle sells out early, but if you’re visiting later in the evening, you’ll find that Mirable and Bruno move to the Liberty Square Gazebo during the fireworks because of falling ash in the Fairytale Garden. If you time it right and you’re willing to watch the fireworks from a nearby location, you can meet them with almost no wait after the finale.

Pecos Bill’s Tale Tale Inn & Cafe

  • Grilled Masa Flatbread – $12.99
Grilled corn cake topped with butternut squash purée, braised chicken, cilantro-pumpkin seed sauce, shredded lettuce, pico de gallo, and queso fresco
  • Cajun Burger – $15.49
Cajun-spiced all-beef patty topped with fried green tomato, Cajun andouille dip, and Creole rémoulade on a black bun
  • Spiced Chocolate Mousse Bar – $6.29
Spiced chocolate mousse, dulce de leche, orange glaze, and a sugar candy
  • Guava Lemonade Slushy – $6.49
with cheesecake foam, Halloween sprinkles, and sugar candy

The Cajun Burger is a good option if you can’t get a reservation to try the Ghoulishly Gourmet Burger at the Plaza Restaurant, it’s got a nice spice without the angry heat. Plus, it’s not the usual hockey puck-style patty and the sauce is pretty scrummy. If you are a cilantro fan you will love the flatbread, but if you are on team cilantro-tastes-like-window-cleaner then you will bemoan the ruinage of an otherwise lovely flatbread.

Mousse and foam are the culinary tools this year and there’s one of each on this menu. The mousse bar is adorable and we love any sort of spiced cake (although again we feel this one comes in second to the Plaza). The slushy is enormous, and we love guava. If you don’t love guava we think you will still like this, but perhaps not as much as we did.

Carts & Kiosks

There are a few more items at carts and kiosks around the party that we didn’t get to try, but we hit the two big ones – Liberty Square Market and Golden Oak Outpost. And we grabbed a Tombstone Tart when we were feeling peckish on the way out of Haunted Mansion.

Liberty Square Market
  • Jack Pop – $5.75
Chocolate fudge brownie with marshmallow filling topped with a chocolate piece
  • Sally Pop – $5.75
Yellow cake with raspberry filling topped with a chocolate piece
  • Skull Blondie – $5.29
    Maple blondie with caramel sauce

The word “pop” makes them seem dainty, but these are basically small cakes – they’re huge! Jack and Sally are both super sweet and rich but Sally is one of our favorites because we cannot resist any type of berry with chocolate. Simple but always so good, plus they make a great picture for your social media.

The blondie is also pretty big, and there is a strong argument that the last thing you need here is caramel sauce. Should you pour it and eat it anyway? Of course you should. This spot wasn’t ever crowded at either party we attended, and you can pick up a variety of drinks while you’re here. AND they have seating.

Outdoor Cart next to Haunted Mansion entrance

The Tombstone Tart, $5.99. The Mousse makes it. We had just gotten off HM and were slightly peckish. This made a nice little snack for two and it wasn’t over baked like the picture might suggest. It also wasn’t as sweet as lots of the other Party treats, and if you get more than one you may get a different gravestone.

Golden Oak Outpost
  • Chocolate-Caramel Tart – $5.79
Chocolate tart shell filled with chocolate ganache, caramel sauce, and caramel cream topped with TWIX Cookie Bar Pieces and a chocolate piece
  • Sweet-and-Spicy Beignets – $6.99
Berry and cayenne-dusted beignets with chicory coffee-chocolate sauce

If Twix is your most superior candy bar then the chocolate caramel tart is your winning treat at this stop. The caramel cream is lighter than it appears in pictures, and this was so good that we would definitely get this again (except that we’d have to buy another party ticket to do it). Don’t be scared off by the word “cayenne” on the beignets, this was just the barest whisper to bring a wee bit of heat. Pair that with the fried dough and chocolate, it’s a winner.

Did you snack your way around MNSSHP this year? What was your favorite treat? Let us know in the comments!
