Were You Successful Getting a Boarding Group for Rise of the Resistance?
Rise of the Resistance is the hottest ticket at Walt Disney World. Guests who do not do their research and arrive after park opening have close to no chance of riding. For guests who arrive early, and know how to use the My Disney Experience to join the virtual queue, there is a sense of excitement as people enter the park and attempt to get their Boarding Group.
Here are some photos at 7:00 a.m., for an 8:00 a.m. opening.
If you have attempted to get a Boarding Group for Rise of the Resistance, what was your success rate (i.e., what percentage of attempts where you were in the park and had My Disney Experience ready on time resulted in you getting at least a Backup Boarding Group)? Exclude times you were late or didn’t have your phone open.)

We were there on February 14th. Got to the park at 6:30 a.m. and were able to snag boarding pass number 93 shortly after 8 a.m. All the boarding passes we’re gone in 40 seconds that day. Unfortunately, the ride started breaking down in the afternoon and we were never able to get our number called. One of the cast members was nice enough to give us a fast pass to any other ride in the park to make up for it, but it’s frustrating when you do everything you are supposed to do and plan way in advance to get the boarding pass, only to still not be able to ride because of something that’s out of your control. I know Disney is trying its best, but this current system is simply not working and it’s leading to more frustration on what should be an enjoyable day at the park, especially for those of us who can only come once every couple of years.
I’m 6 for 6 getting a boarding group and getting on the ride. I am solo though, so it’s prolly easier for me. I only had backup 1 time but I still got to ride. The only times I had problems first I got stuck behind a family whose bands weren’t working and I got group 95 which wasn’t backup but real close. Another time I didn’t account for i4 traffic and ended up with backup group like 123 but amazingly still got to ride! I think the other issue honestly is how many people in your group. If you’re like me and by yourself it’s prolly easier for me to get fit in somewhere than if you’re a family of like 7 or something.
We were 5 for 5 last week, and all low BGs – 9, 14, 15, 5, and 2!
I was on wifi and my husband was on AT&T data, and I got the group all 5 times. I now believe I am the owner of a magical phone.
We were there on 2/19/20. Arrived at park before 7am and got a boarding pass (#99) while getting on Slinky Dog. Our group was called around 530pm. We had one day and one chance to get one. We were excited! It was worth the wait for sure!
I also got a boarding pass this morning (2/26), in NJ!! I practice when I remember, today opened it up right at 8. I got 29, so even if I hopped a plane i wouldn’t make it lol. Must have been a glitch in the system. At least someone else was able to snag when I cancelled a minute later. Other days I tried I got the screen that not everyone is in the park…
HELP! I just got boarding group 13! Only problem: I’m sitting in my bedroom in Minnesota!! I tried the timing out at 7am CST just to see if it would work (I’ve got time date screen shots to prove this). I have tickets linked to my account, but we don’t leave for Disney for another 3 weeks. What should I do? I feel like I need to tell someone. How could this happen?
We were one for one last week, though technically both my wife and I tried to get a BG at the same time — she used the park’s wifi and I used data. We punched in at the same time, but I got a screen asking about people in our group from a previous trip that I thought I had deleted and by the time I removed them my wife got us a 37. She didn’t get that screen (?) and owned the glory. Sort of like when she beat me at TSM later.
Not that I’ll ever do something this insane – we were at the World earlier this month and my travel partner flatly refused to get up at the crack of dawn on vacation for this endurance test – but I wonder if anyone has come up with a “map” of where at DHS various cell carriers provide strong signals. Wi-Fi is always a crap shoot at any WDW park, though I seem to have the best luck with that at Epcot.

2 for 2. We were there last week. First day (Monday) we followed our front desk person’s rec and got in line for the bus at 6am. Bus came around 6:30 (was supposed to be 7) and we got to the park before 7. Quickly moved through security. Got into the park around 7. Hubs and I both tried right as they started the announcement at 8. He got 43. Ride was down a lot so when we were called around 2 we couldn’t get on. Came back up about an hour and a half later and stood in line for 90 minutes. We went back on Friday. Got to the bus around 6:45 and only waited a few minutes. Got to the park and quickly through security. Took a bit longer for park entrance, but we were in before 7:15. Both the hubs and I tried and I was successful with group 22. When we were called, we were only in line to ride for about 20 minutes.
We were there last week. The first time we tried (2/16) our Lyft got us there late. We got through bag check and and tapped in at almost exactly 8:01, but it was too late. The second time, the following Tuesday, we had much better luck and got group 27. The only hiccup was that both of us were trying to use the app and it only worked for one of us; I never had the button go live.
We were there Saturday 2/15. We drove from Pop, went through bag check, and had scanned in by 7:45. Using my phone and husband’s phone (also had practiced beforehand) had app ready to click “find out more” right at 8:00, not on wifi, using Verizon, my button did not turn red so backed out and went back in, husband’s app crashed, mine then worked. We got group 75, back up group. Got called about 5:30. Got in line about 6:30ish. 90 minute wait, half way through ride and it breaks down. We were given a FP to return next day. We planned on driving home next day, but went to try ride again…much shorter wait but broke down mid-ride again. Very frustrating. Given FP again and had to ask to be given one that could be used in future. So how does that exprience even rate??
I think this poll is misleading because I’m 100% at getting a boarding group (2 attempts, 2 boarding groups) but only 50% at actually getting on the ride. We did everything we were supposed to (no bags, Lyft to park, turned off wifi, separated from crowds) and got 99 the first time and 78 the 2nd time. The first day our group was not called and we were notified at 6:30 pm. It makes for such a frustrating trip, especially with two littles in tow. Even more frustrating is hearing people around you saying it’s their 7th or 12th time getting on the ride when we just wanted to ride once!
This is incredibly frustrating – is Rise like this every single day, regardless of season/general crowd levels? Do you anticipate it will still be like this in a couple months?
We have attempted once and gotten a boarding group once. Visited HS on Tuesday Feb 4th. It was 8am opening. Arrived at park 7:30 via Uber from Riviera. Skyliner was not running until 8 and we only had one chance, didn’t want to risk waiting for a bus. Carried no bags and walked right in. Only a few people at the bag check anyway, no backup. Walked right through tap styles, no wait there either. They let guests about 1/2 way down Sunset, up to Hollywood Studios arch and around corner towards Galaxy’s Edge. We checked internet speeds in a few different spots. They were strong everywhere. Tried to pick a location where there wasn’t a huge crowd. Stayed away from the crowds forming a hold locations. Wound up just at the entrance to the center courtyard. Used a second phone as a clock timer in order to have a second hand counting down. Closed and opened ap just after 8am. Received boarding group 45 which was called about 4 hours later at noon. Maybe 20 minutes in que before the ride. I feel like if you’re in the park at opening time, and are fairly quick using the ap (if you’re not familiar watch some YouTube videos) you’ll get a group. I didn’t see anyone looking upset or frustrated about not being successful.
2 for 2 on the 16th (BG 9) and 21st Feb (BG 16). Far too stressful for my liking and I couldn’t help but feel sorry for those around me that hadn’t got a BG or a high BG.
We were 6 for 6 over the Christmas week (Dec 25 – 31). Obviously with the super early opening there weren’t as many people in the park at opening.
Does anyone have any thoughts when they will start fastpass for ROTR? We are going between Christmas and New Years this year and hope they have fastpass by then.
We were 2 for 2 on Feb. 10th and 11th. We Ubered from the Riviera and were in the park by 7:15. We waited down by Rock and Roller Coaster in a mass of humanity. All of our party was off the wifi, and we had AT&T and Sprint carriers. We made sure to be on the main page of MyDisney Experience, then as soon as it was 8am, hit the ” find out more” button, and the “join a boarding group” button was live. I was worried it wouldn’t refresh if I was already on that page. We were in boarding group 13 the first day (started boarding by 8:45) and group 3 the second day (started boarding at 8:22).
Yes, they are moving people quickly through security and the touchpoints, but I almost think they are moving people too quickly at the touchpoints before both are fully illuminated in green. We were there last week and despite doing everything as practiced and advised, had all sorts of issues trying to get a BG for our group of 3. We were finally able to get a BBG (96) when I was the only one selected. Very stressful when things didn’t go as planned! Fortunately, Guest Services was able to then add the others into our BBG. Our BBG was called around 4:15, so not too bad.
I’m 1 for 1. My family and I were at Hollywood Studios on December 16th. We were through security for a 7:00a park opening that was really a 6:30 opening. Boarding passes were distributed at 6:30. We got Group 41. We were called at 10:00a to ride. I’m taking a solo trip next week and hoping to be 2 for 2.
I was at Disneyland in California over the Saturday of President’s Day weekend, and was able to snag Group 75 for my party of 4. All of us had the Disneyland app with our tickets connected so we were all able to attempt until one of us got through. The park opened at 8am, and our boarding group was called at 1:19pm. I know this poll is referring to Florida, but I hope this perspective helps provide insight to the West Coast Rise!
Are there stats on what the chances are for different group numbers are for receiving boarding groups? For example, I would assume that the likelihood that a single rider getting a lower number is greater than say a group of 4 people. And I would assume a single rider’s chances of getting a group at all is better than a group of 2 or more.

My family and I were in the park by 7:30 on a Sunday, we stood in front of Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway. Stay away from the packs of people. One of us had wifi the other had data. We downloaded a clock on the cellphone that had a secondhand and at 7:59 and 55 seconds we started, got group 25. It took 1 hour to call our group. Great day, great ride. We were quite proud of ourselves for being successful.
Our group of 4 was 2 for 2 early February 2020. Our first try was a rainy Saturday morning and we arrived after park opening. We got on a backup group. We were on the ride by 3pm. A cast member suggested arriving 15 to 30 minutes before park opening for our next try. We were inside Hollywood Studios 15 minutes before. We got on group 44. The park was so crowded that we got on the skyliner for EPCOT and had breakfast there before our boarding group was opened.
In regards to getting a boarding pass…
Is it possible for your whole party to scan in at Hollywood Studios then immediately leave and head to another park (without entering the other park) and still be able to secure a boarding pass at park opening time?
Absolutely! Last we we did this two times. Once we rope dropped EPCOT, and the other time we were eating breakfast at Yacht Club when we got our Boarding Groups. Everyone must tap into HS before leaving.
We went on 2/19/20 We arrived at 7:15am and was inside the park by 7:30am for 8:00am opening. We were prepared and familiar with how the app worked. My son logged in right when it reported active and we got boarding group 59. We were called for the ride about 2:00pm. There seemed to be no relationship between your place in line or arrival time, and the boarding groups assigned. For example, some people who arrived before us had boarding groups in the 90’s and people behind us had 20’s. As long as you are in the park and available to click when it goes active, you should be successful.
I was 1 for 1 but got VERY lucky because we were boarding group 94 and just got a good day! My son’s magic band was malfunctioning all week and even though he was in the park it made us kick him out of party before we could get the boarding group which slowed us down- guest relations didn’t help us at all with that- even though they assured us before that he would be fine- they will NOT compensate with boarding groups for ROTR but they did give us 6 fastpasses each to OTHER rides for the next two days to make up for it.
I tried one time and got group 3. I also spent probably hours reading forum posts on others successful strategy, practiced the process in the days before my trip, have a top of the line phone, and Verizon.
I suspect my results were 90% luck and 10% those factors above.
I’d love to know how many times they tried as well. Heading to DL and only have 1 day to try. Curious what the odds are in that scenario.
Do you have any stats on arrival time and how long it takes to get to the touch points?
Disney is moving people quickly through security and the touchpoints. I was traveling solo without a bag, and was in the park in less than 30 minutes, at 7:30 for an 8 am opening. I would not recommend cutting it that close. I would arrive atleast an hour early.
