This Not That at Universal Orlando – Dining Edition
Universal Orlando has loads of dining that we love. From the out-of-this-world pizzas at Pizza Moon to the fresh fish & chips in the Wizarding World, there are loads of great places to dine at Universal. But not all are great, and we think there are some choices you should skip and swap with something else. In this article we’ll go over the lowest rated restaurants on property, as rated by our readers, and our suggested replacements.

Wizarding World Breakfast (With ONE Exception)
The Wizarding World restaurants are highly rated for lunch and dinner, offering fresh fish and chips along with classic British pub fare. The Wizarding World food was a turning point for food not just at Universal but at all theme parks; we don’t get Satul’i Canteen without Three Broomsticks. But there is ONE thing about these restaurants that isn’t good: the breakfasts. I nearly lost my parents on their first UOR trip with the large batch powdered eggs, flimsy bacon, sad pastries, and high prices. Skip the breakfasts, instead there are better options. In USF go to Today Cafe and if you’re in IOA hit up Crescent Moon for breakfast options and drinks.
There is ONE exception to this rule: Café L’air De La Sirène in Epic Universe has an amazing Wizarding breakfast with Butterbeer crepes, quiche loraine, and more. If you aren’t going to Oak & Star for breakfast, go here.

Fast Food Boulevard
Fast Food Boulevard (overall): 78%
Frying Dutchman: 57% approval (oof)
Simpsons Hot Dogs: 67% approval
Krusty Burger: 76% approval
What do you mean The Clogger isn’t appetizing? After over a decade of offering above average American fast food, Fast Food Boulevard and it’s conglomerate of restaurant facades is the lowest rated counter service in the parks. The Chicken & Waffle sandwich with maple mayo? Gone. The tater tots? Gone. The menu has been paired back, reduced, and quality lowered to hit a price point (which is always higher than Disney’s, just saying). Instead go find your burgers, pizza, and food elsewhere. Better burgers are found at Mel’s Drive-In (84% approval), better pizza at Louie’s (95% approval), and a higher quality meal is located close by at Dreamworks Imagination Cafe (90% approval) just a few hundred feet away.
Good news: Moe’s and Duff Brewery still rate highly for your Duff beer needs.

Cafe Four & Captain America Diner
Cafe Four: 64% approval
Captain America Diner: 75% approval
Marvel Super Hero Island should have amazing food. Look at Disney’s stab at Marvel food with Pym’s Test Kitchen at DCA (93% approval) to see how it could be done. But no, Cafe Four and Captain America Diner in IOA suffers from “late 90s food quality standards” that have plagued parks for a long time. The food is standard American faire, from burgers to spaghetti and red sauce with everything in the middle. But the food is disappointing with boring and sometimes bad food abounding. Cafe Four is the worst offender as the second worst quick service in IOA (more on the #1 later) and Captain America doesn’t fare much better. Instead we suggest going to Circus McGurkis Cafe Stoopendus (100% approval), the food is better in a child friendly atmosphere with plenty of seating.
Margaritaville & Pat O’Brien’s
Margaritaville: 79% approval
Pat O’Brien’s: 67% approval
CityWalk Orlando is wedged between USF and IOA and functions as the resort’s dining and entertainment hub. The full-service dining options skew towards the “American” label (think burgers, chicken, steak, etc.) with some safe diversions (Mexican, Italian) thrown in for flavor. Of the full-service restaurants at CityWalk, the lowest two are Margaritaville and Pat O’Brien’s. Unfortunately for Margaritaville, even if it is 5 o’clock somewhere it isn’t 6pm when it’s time to eat, as the food is best described as “meh” (we do love the nachos though). And Pat O’Brien’s might be the originator and home of the Hurricane cocktail, the food isn’t going to blow you over either. Instead head to Bob Marley a Tribute to Freedom (100%) and it’s Jamaican food, Hard Rock Cafe Orlando (100%) has a solid selection of familiar fare in a music atmosphere, and the Cowfish Sushi Burger Bar (92%) is a solid solution or burger cravings.
Comic Strip Cafe & Blondie’s
Comic Strip Cafe: 67% approval
Blondie’s: 50% approval (my lord)
Say “bad food at Universal Orlando” and most people will think Toon Lagoon’s Comic Strip Cafe and Blondie’s. Not to bury the lead here, but Blondie’s has the lowest-rated food in all the Universal Orlando parks with sandwiches and mac and cheese bowls. Just avoid it. Comic Strip Cafe has seen some improvements over the years with an international food focus, but the quality is still off a step. Instead head over to Jurassic Park for Burger Digs (87% approval).

Toadstool Cafe
Toadstool Cafe: 82% approval
Epic Universe has some of the best food options in any Orlando theme park, but where you find excellence someone has to be last. Toadstool Cafe has some unique and fun food like burgers and pasta, but long waits and a noisy interior don’t wow over our readers. Instead leave the Super Nintendo World portal and head into Celestial Park for Pizza Moon (94%) for pizzas and pastas, Oak & Star Tavern(94%) for amazing BBQ, or Meteor Astropub (90%) for burgers, fries, and shakes.
