Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto to Officially Open in April
Are you excited about Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort? If you’ve been like me and counting down the days until it opens, I have some news for you that I think you are going to like! Your wait is soon coming to an end!
Trader Sam’s will officially open in late April. (There is no official opening date because Disney is apparently waiting on a shipment of tiki glasses.) However, for those of you visiting in the next month, you could still be able to get in on a sneak preview. You see, beginning tomorrow, March 28, Trader Sam’s will be in soft opening mode.
Do keep in mind that the lounge is actually very intimate with only 50 indoor seats and seating for only 82 on the outdoor patio. With that knowledge, I cannot stress enough that if you decide to try to experience the bar during this time period that you will need to pack your patience and be prepared to wait for a while before being able to enter. (Who am I kidding…even after it officially opens, the bar will likely have long waits for a while. This place is going to be PACKED!)
As far as the famous beverages go, there will be a nice mix of beverages that are exclusive to Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto, some that came from Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar in Disneyland, and some beverages that are non-alcoholic.
Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto exclusive beverages are:
- Polynesian Pearl
- Castaway Crush
- Tahitian Torch
- Dark & Tropical Stormy
Imported from Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar:
- Krakatoa Punch
- Shrunken Zombie Head
Sam’s No-Booze Brews include:
- Schweitzer Fall
- Skipper Sipper
- Polynesian Punch
In addition, there will be a wide variety of small bites that guests can order. They include:
- Chicken Lettuce Cups with hosin ginger sauce
- Hawaiian Poke with Siracha aioli and wonton chips
- Kalua Pork Tacos with shredded cabbage and pickled vegetables
- Pan-fried Dumplings with soy-sesame dipping sauce
- Roasted Chicken and Pork pate banh mi sliders with pickled vegetables
- Salmon Oshizushi (press sushi)
- Corn-battered Portuguese Sausages with curry ketchup
- Headhunter Sushi Roll
The lounge hours have not officially been released, but rumored hours are said to be 4:00 p.m until midnight. However, it’s being said that the lounge will only permit those 21 and up after 8:00 p.m. While the lounge is in soft opening, know that it can close at any time.
I’ll make sure to report back any further details as I find them out!

I could not be more excited for this. We walked into Trader Sam’s at disneyland not knowing what to expect and it was amazing. One of the highlights of our first disneyland trip. Can not wait to have an Uh-Oa! at the Poly
How is the size of this one compared to that at DL? I get the idea of the intimate feeling, but why not build this one bigger? Or at least multiple rooms to it?
The size is just a little bit bigger, but not much. I’d guess they would want this kind of lounge to have a more intimate feel, which is why they build them smaller. Make it too large and you loose some of the excitement and adventure of the place, in my opinion.
