Update: Our Second Visit to Universal Kids Resort in Frisco, Texas

Universal Kids Resort in Frisco, Texas officially opened on July 1, 2026. Hopefully you’ve had a chance to read about our first impressions during the preview on June 24 ~ you can read that full post here.

Universal made some changes in the week between previews and the official opening, and there are still a few gaps. In this post we will look at both and show you a few other features of the new park.

Before and after shots of the snack bar seating in Bikini Bottom.

We’re happy to report that umbrellas have been installed on many of the outdoor tables. While it’s still very hot, the shade is welcome.

Infrared thermometer readings on July 1.

Infrared thermometer readings of the shaded seats in Bikini Bottom, above, right, show just over 104 degrees. The reading on the left was taken from an uncovered bench nearby.

Before and after shots of the Bello Bay Boutique and Bites location.

Bello Bay Boutique and Bites received a huge upgrade since our fist visit. There are now four covered tables and two uncovered tables ~ a step up from the entirely uncovered space before. This location is also home to dozens of new plants and shrubs, and a few large trees! All things that will help block the sun and visually enhance the area.

Before and after shots of the Swamp Snacks location

More umbrellas were installed at the tables in front of the Swamp Snacks location, too. This is just to the right of the Shrek and Fiona meet and greet.

Isle of Curiosity Theater

The Theater near the Isle of Curiosity wasn’t open during our first visit, and it still isn’t exactly open. It’s open-ish. The photo above shows the current state of the theater. It’s 14 benches in front of cartoon projections in what looks to be a pre-show area for the real theater. The good news here is that it’s not crowded and the air conditioning is lovely.

The Cafe / Starbucks is open.

The left side of the building shown above is the Starbucks / cafe hybrid for this park. This is located to the right just after you enter.

Guests can get some familiar Starbucks coffee and tea beverages as well as different salad, pizza, and pastry options. Exterior seating only.

Universal Kids Resort rentals.

The rental desk occupies the right side of the cafe building. This is where you’ll rent strollers, scooters, and wheelchairs.

  • Double stroller, $15 + tax
  • Wheelchair, $15 + tax
  • ECV $40 + tax
  • ECV with canopy $55 + tax
Cash-to-card machine

There are “Convert Cash” machines at Universal Kids, although cash is accepted. We’ve seen these machines before in other locations like LEGOLAND. You’ll get a prepaid Visa card for whatever amount of cash you put into the machine. There is no fee to get the card, however there is a $3.95 monthly dormancy fee every month starting at the 92 day mark for each month with no transactions.

Lockers for rent

Locker rentals are on the far right as soon as you enter the park.

  • Standard: 11 in x 11.7 in x 17.7 in $15.00 for the full day
  • Large: 11 in x 17.7 in x 17.7 in $20.00 for the full day
  • Luggage: 13.8 in x 23.7 in x 17.7 in $25.00 for the full day
Changing Rooms at Pineapple Paradise

There are lots of little splash pads all over the park, but the one at Pineapple Paradise in Bikini Bottom is one of two with changing rooms. The exterior is adorable, but we checked each of the changing rooms and none of them have hooks or benches. They do have lots of room to move around, though.

Summary

It was clear from our second visit that Universal is aware of the issues in this park and they’re trying to fix them. There was some new paint at the Bello Bay Cruise and LOTS of new trees and landscaping. The added shade was a huge help for the outside dining areas. Stay tuned for our review of the Universal Kids Hotel.
