The 12 Days of a Theme Park Christmas

Everyone has their favorite Christmas traditions. For some it’s a dramatic reading of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas, while for others it is the 24 hour marathon of A Christmas Story. Many of us enjoy reading the famous poem 12 Days of Christmas, even going so far as to figuring out how much all those items would cost (imagine if they were bought at a theme park!) This year we are starting a new tradition on the blog with a look at the 12 Days of a Theme Park Christmas. Get close to your loved ones, slip on an ugly sweater, drink a big sip of egg nog, and let’s begin with…

TWELVE CLOSED ATTRACTIONS

DHSActivities
This is a busy time for the Disney Dump as many attractions have been added to the pile. A great time to invest in construction walls though!

ELEVEN BANISHED BUBBLE GUNS

Guns have been completely banned from Walt Disney World, even the bubble guns.

TEN MONORAIL PROBLEMS

Despite having more scheduled downtime than ever before, the Walt Disney World monorails have had some high profile evacuations and even an accident with a tow vehicle.

NINE SOUVENIR CUPS

EIGHT eBay SCAMMERS

From D23 Expo to the recent opening of Disney Parks blog meets to the opening of the Skipper Canteen and everywhere in-between, Disney fans have been ripping off other Disney fans at an exploding rate.

SEVEN STAR WARS MOVIES

StarWars
Will Star Wars: The Force Awakens overtake Avatar as the biggest movie of all time? Right now it is projected to (although to be fair, my beloved San Diego Chargers were projected to go 16-0 back in September).

SIX SCAREACTORS SUCKERPUNCHED

FIVE SECURITY MEASURES

New security measures are now in place including metal detectors and wand style detectors at Walt Disney World, Universal, and SeaWorld. (photo by Matt Cleary)

FOUR OUNCE BEER POURS

THREE POOP SNACKS

The Match The Species snacks at Animal Kingdom were a big surprise, and after going viral, lasted for less than two weeks inside the park. (photo by Brian Carey)

TWO MOVIES BOMBING

For the first time ever, Disney went over $5 Billion in one year, and more impressively did so with Tomorrowland flopping, and The Good Dinosaur becoming Pixar’s first ever “failure” (box office wise).

AND A POP TART SANDWICH IN A PEAR TREE

Merry Christmas Everybody!

  • Merry Christmas, Derek!
In the dictionary next to “prolific” is your photo.
Seriously, I hope they’re paying you OT. (You’ll just waste it at the outlets. Sheesh.)
This is my favorite month–all the holiday joy AND about 30 blog posts from you.
Merry Christmas to all the kind folks at touringplans.com!
    Thank you one and all.

  • Have to say I’m not shocked “The Good Dinosaur” is flopping (by Pixar standards, anyway). I found myself dozing in the theater while watching it, and that doesn’t happen to me in most Disney films! The best redeeming quality of the film: Sam Elliot in a Disney pic. Had he been cast throughout, Pixar may have had a complete movie.
