Ask It: Favorite Nighttime Show at WDW
As I’m writing this up, I can hear the sounds of the fireworks from Wishes from outside my home office. Without looking up, I can tell from the sounds of the shells what “scene” is going on for the show. It will certainly be an adjustment when the new “Happily Ever After” nighttime spectacular debuts later this spring. It seems that everyone has a favorite nighttime show at Walt Disney World — so here’s this week’s question:

Illuminations is exactly the kind of show Epcot should have. It’s intellectual, non-character based, and tells an excellent story. I’m worried that it’s on the chopping block for the reasons I love it.
Though from what I’ve seen, Rivers of Light is very much in the same tradition. It’s going to be a must-see on the next trip to WDW.
Going to have to write in Star Wars, Illuminations is my close second and I love Wishes too. Fantasmic is just ok. Our last trip was right before Rivers of Light opened, so I’ve not seen it yet.
Star Wars!!
First, you really should have added the Star Wars Fireworks to the list. I’m not sure why you excluded them. They may have got my vote.
Second, neither Fantasmic or Illuminations are must do’s every trip for me or anyone in our family. The three must do’s are Wishes, Star Wars and now Rivers of Light. As much as I love Wishes and it holds such a special place in my heart for personal reasons after thinking about it I went with Rivers of Light. It is unlike anything I’ve ever seen before and I hope that Disney doesn’t screw it up and start adding more characters and changing the music. It is so unique and unlike anything I’ve ever experienced that I know this will be a must do for us every trip going forward.
Unfortunately, one of the polling systems we’re using only allows four items, and I went with one from each park. Since I had to choose between Fantasmic and Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular, I went with the one that has been around longer and has broader appeal.
But I am certainly counting up the write-in votes…and we’ll see if Star Wars as a write-in can topple any of the other ones on the list!
