I always love a Duffy article, he’s my favourite! Because of that, I was suddenly really excited to hear that he was meeting in Epcot (which I know has now been pointed out a few times not to be the case). I think I first read the news around two years ago, reported by Touring Plans, in fact. I did learn that he meets in Paris though, which I didn’t know, so thank you for that. I don’t get why North America doesn’t like cute stuff. :p
I’ll jump in here. Our family has been going to Disney for 11 years straight (one annual trip per year now DVC). Two girls (now 14 and 7), my wife and I. We walked by Duffy for years in EPCOT. Never stopped by, never bought any toys. For us, it is about the story or the emotional impact. Our girls love to meet the characters they know about and see in the movies or shows. It was when on a rainy day about 4 years ago we were in Bay Lakes and saw the story of Duffy… who he was. That Minnie gave him to Mickey as told on the Disney resort stations. My girls then wanted to meet him. We then found as a character, he was fun and playful which further cemented it for our family. Seeing just a bear, didn’t make us want to meet him. To me, that is what is lost on Duffy in the US (perhaps it is different in other countries). The magic of characters in Disney is meeting the hero, princess or character that you saw and loved. It is making those dreams come true. Until our girls knew the story, he was just a bear. Now he is (or was…lol… sad face for him leaving) Duffy… Mickey’s bear from Minnie. Each of our girls still sleeps with their Duffy bear (in multiple costumes) and comments as we walk by his spot in EPCOT
DisneyMcDad,
It’s interesting to say that you didn’t feel emotionally connected to the story. That’s EXACTLY why Duffy didn’t do well the first time.
It’s unfortunate that Duffy didn’t have the impact here in the US that he does in other parts of the world. It seems that he’ll never top the Big Cheese.
What a wonderful story! I truly enjoyed reading about your girls experience through your eyes; the eyes of a parent. THAT’S the perfect example of the kind of emotional impact we needed from Duffy the first time around.
Thank you for commenting!

They brought Duffy back to Epcot!??! My boys are going to be so excited. They were so disappointed when they stopped doing the M&Gs about a year ago.

Gillian,
May I ask what you love about Duffy? Since he’s not super popular in the US, I still don’t quite understand…even after all of my research!
Thanks for watching!

Is there a Duffy meet and greet at Epcot? Last time we were there they had taken him out of the World Showcase location.
Kathy and Stacey,
It seems I’m the confused one. I try to be as thorough as possible when researching for these videos, but some things just slip by!
Duffy is indeed done with Meet and Greets at Epcot but can still be found at the Kidcot Fun Stops!
Sorry for my mistake, and thank you for watching!
