On Your Mark, Get Set Run – runDisney In Person Races Returning!
runDisney fans! This is the news you have been waiting so impatiently for! runDisney will once again be offering in person racing at the Walt Disney World Resort and it will be happening sooner than you think! Interestingly enough, it appears that Guests can choose to run these races in person, but there will still be a virtual option, for those who would rather run a little more locally.
That’s because the race season will kick off with Wine and Dine Weekend from November 4-7, 2021. This race will be themed around Disney Villains, with the Wickedly Delicious race weekend. This weekend will feature the 5K, 10K, Half Marathon, Two Course Challenge, and the Post-Race Party. General Registration for In-Person Races Opens July 13, 2021 at 10 AM EST. General Registration for Virtual Races Opens July 16, 2021 at 10 AM EST.
Then in January, the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend will take place from January 5-9, 2022. (And you can bet there will likely be a 50th Walt Disney World anniversary spin to it.) Marathon Weekend will include the 5K, 10K, Half Marathon, Full Marathon, Goofy’s Race and a Half Challenge, and Dopey Challenge. General Registration for In-Person Races Opens July 27, 2021 at 10 AM EST. General Registration for Virtual Races Opens July 30, 2021 at 10 AM EST.
In February, we’ll have the Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend, which runs from February 24-27, 2022. Princess Weekend will include the 5K, 10K, Half Marathon, Fairy Tale Challenge, and new – Sunrise Yoga. General Registration for In-Person Races Opens August 24, 2021 at 10 AM EST. General Registration for Virtual Races Opens August 27, 2021 at 10 AM EST.
Finally, since Disney did share that last year’s virtual event would be the last one for Star Wars races, runDisney has shared that they will be offering the Springtime Surprise Weekend. No information has been released about this race weekend yet.
One thing I can guarantee – with the pent up demand that people have for these in person races, I can guarantee these are going to be extremely difficult to get into this year.
More details about the race weekends can be found here.
how come your crowd calendar for the Mar 31 – April 3 weekend doesn’t seem to be impacted by the run disney event? It has very low crowds predicted and I’m scared to trust it.
