Allergy Friendly Trick-or-Treating at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party

Food sensitivities and allergies can be extra scary amid the dim lights and busy fun of Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. Fortunately, Disney has a pretty robust system in place that ensures folks requiring safe food choices don’t miss out on any of the fun. If you haven’t been to MNSSHP for a number of years, you probably won’t recognize the current protocols. Gone are the days of Cast Members handing a fistful of peanut M&M’s to one guest and a teal allergy token to another using the same hand. Here is how the process works now:

The decorated omnibus pointing the way to the Market Street Welcome.

Secure the Bag

After you’ve tapped in to the Magic Kingdom for the 4 pm Party entry, follow the signs plastered on the omnibus in front of the Main Street Confectionery and head over to the Market Street Welcome where you’ll see a DJ, statues of your favorite pals in their Halloween finery, and some special characters. This is also where you’ll get your treat bag and your first token. When you get to the end of Market Street, you’ll see a row of Cast Members passing out standard treat bags and full-size bags of M&M’s. Ask any Cast Member for an allergy bag, and you’ll be given the teal bag you see below and your first teal token in place of candy. Make sure you get to the Market Street Welcome before it closes at 8 pm. You’ll still be able to get a treat bag if you miss this section of the Party, but it’s neat to see and worth the effort.

Trick-or-Treat

When Trick-or-Treating begins at 7 pm, you’ll be able to go to all 15 treat spots – including Mickey’s PhilharMagic where there are TWO treat stops! – and get teal tokens as the guests with standard bags in your party get candy. We know this is especially important when you have multiple kids in your group and not all of them have food restrictions. Everyone gets a treat bag, everyone goes to the same spots, and everyone gets something in their bag.

Look for the lit M&M inflatables at all 15 treat stops.

1 Token = Lots of Treats

You’ll notice right away that each person with a standard Trick-or-Treat bag is getting a scoop of candy per bag. Their bags get full quickly, and many guests ask for a second bag or even have to rent a locker (us) to hold all of their candy. This may sting a little when you’re walking away with a teal poker chip and a bag that is full of air. Fret not, friend. Your time is coming. Once you’re done collecting loot for the night, you’ll take your tokens to one of two redemption centers in the Magic Kingdom.

Redemption centers are located at the Liberty Square Ticket Office near Sleepy Hollow and the Chamber of Commerce near the entrance to the Magic Kingdom. Both spots are open for the length of the Party.

Liberty Square Ticket Office Redemption Center

As soon as you go inside one of the Redemption Centers, a Cast Member will ask you about your allergies. Once they are clear on what items you need to avoid, they will show you the treats on offer that are safe for you. In years past, we have seen craft kits as an option for token redemption, but none were available on the night of the first Party.

Full ingredient lists are on display at each Redemption Center so that you can verify which treats are safe for you to consume. We asked for treats safe for a Gluten intolerance during our visit and were given lots of fun treat options. Here is where it gets fun! You can walk in with just two or three tokens and walk out with a bunch of safe treats! The Cast Members will make sure you get the same volume of goodies as you’d get if you were getting standard candy around the Park. Below is everything we got with just 5 tokens AND after we insisted that we didn’t need anything else. The kind Cast Members were firm that we could have more treats with no additional tokens, but we didn’t want to carry an ounce more than necessary.

Our Gluten-Friendly allergy haul.

If you have a nut or dairy allergy, your treat haul will look different but will be just as bountiful. Additionally, if you only want gummy bears and aren’t interested in any other safe treats, the lovely Cast Members will fill your bag with gummy bears!

The photo below shows the standard candy we gathered during the night as we visited several stops. (Is it just us or are you seeing that the haul is extra Skittles-laden this year?)

Are you headed to Mickey’s Not-So-Scary with food allergies this year? We’d love to hear your tips and recommendations for how to stay safe & spooky at the same time!

  • This is always a “treat” to see how they can accommodate those needing to be safe with their allergens. Thanks for taking the time to document this!
