Early Entry Rope Drop Testing in Disney’s Hollywood Studios
We rope dropped Early Entry in Disney’s Hollywood Studios this morning and our tester was able to complete 5 attractions in 135 minutes using a Touring Plan.
Hollywood Studios was a Crowd Level 4 today. Early Entry was at 8:30am and regular entry began at 9:00am. All guests are allowed to tap into the park when the gates open but only guests with Early Entry are allowed to access attractions during the first 30 minutes the park is open.
7:30am: Parking tolls open. Disney Resort buses and the Skyliner were already dropping guests before we parked.
7:36am: Through security
8:00am: Gates open to all guests
8:01am: Tester in the park and headed to Slinky Dog Dash

8:06am: Arrived at Slinky Dog, Cast Members escorting guests into the queue
8:25am: Slinky Dog trains running
Actual Wait for Slinky Dog Dash: 5 minutes
Tester Optimized the Touring Plan and walked across the pathway to Toy Story Mania.

Tester’s original Touring Plan had Millennium Flacon: Smugglers Run as the third attraction of the day, but after optimization, our tester was sent to Tower of Terror.
This was the second ride our tester was able to complete during the 30 minute Early Entry period. All guests were allowed to enter all queues at 9:00am.

Tester completed optimization and headed to the next attraction.

As a reminder, we do not start our timer on the Lines app until we stop walking in the queue. The timer is stopped as soon as we’re ready to board the ride vehicle.

You’ll get to meet Minnie Mouse first and then you’ll head down a hallway where you’ll meet Sorcerer Mickey.
Our tester ended the plan at 10:15am after completing 5 attractions.

Hi, I’m Amy, I was the tester that day. It is a small park, which helps. I’m a mom in my 50’s. I walk with purpose to Slinky, then at an average speed the rest of the morning. I don’t have small kids, strollers or mobility challenges.
I will say the app optimization made that morning possible, and that is a huge help for everyone. Plus, you can set the app to prioritize less walking over time only.
I’m starting to question Early Entry. If your tester got to HS at 7:30 and got onto Slinky Dog at 8:30, isn’t that really a one hour wait? If you look at it that way, does the rest of the morning make EE worth getting up early?
You have a point, and the EE is absolutely only worth it if you are all morning people. However, the one-hour wait before the ride opens saves more than a couple of hours in queues during park hours. I was the tester that day. I’ll get the full times from Len and get back to you.
Good thing this is a smaller park, because it’s a lot of walking if you have someone with little legs or mobility challenged. But 5 attractions is stellar, and lucky that all were operational at park opening.
Can you give some insight into the walking speed of our testers?
Are they moving with singular goal of speed? Moving with purpose? Leisurely strolling?
