A Kid’s Perspective on Nomad Lounge
When we talk about Walt Disney World planning here at Touring Plans, we usually do it through the lens of what matters to adults: what’s efficient, what’s “worth it,” what has the best food, or how to maximize a limited amount of time. But kids experience the parks differently. They notice different things, care about different things, and often have much stronger opinions about places or experiences that adults tend to evaluate analytically.
This series, “A Kid’s Perspective on…” is designed to step out of the adult planning mindset and into a kid’s point of view. For each article, I ask one of my daughters for their opinions about a specific Walt Disney World location. As always, I’ll lead with just a little bit of data, but then we’ll follow that with an honest look at how these spaces land with a kid.
We’re starting with Nomad Lounge in Animal Kingdom. Lounges aren’t typically top of mind for families traveling with kids, and many get skipped entirely under the assumption that they’re “for adults.” But some lounges can be very kid-friendly, offering comfortable seating, shade, or air conditions, and a chance to take a breath during a long park day. My 7-year-old daughter shares her thoughts on what it’s actually like to visit Nomad Lounge as a kid, and whether she thinks it’s a place families should consider adding to their Animal Kingdom plans.
An Intro to Nomad Lounge
Nomad Lounge is a relaxed dining location tucked between Pandora and Discovery Island, and adjacent to Tiffins (Animal Kingdom’s signature restaurant). It’s know for its comfortable indoor and outdoor seating, views toward Pandora, and a menu of small plates and drinks that make it a nice break or meal spot.
Nomad Lounge doesn’t have its own kids menu, but all food from the kids menu at Tiffins is available. And there are “secret” off-menu chicken nuggets too! All of the creative alcoholic beverages on the menu have zero-proof versions that can be a special treat if your kiddo is interested in fancy drinks.
Nomad Lounge is typically open from 10:30 am until park close, and does not take advance dining reservations. Instead, you can join a mobile walk-up waitlist from the MDE app, or speak to a cast member when you arrive. Because it is popular, the list can fill up on busy days. So we recommend going early or late.
Over the past year, Nomad Lounge has a 97% satisfaction rating from Touring Plans readers, which is much above average. That means it’s statistically a great choice.
Nomad Lounge, from a Kid’s Point of View
Before we even got to questions, my 7-year-old approached me with the following already-written up review that she came up with all on her own (edited for readability):
“I love Nomad Lounge and it’s like my favorite restaurant in Disney World! Now, I’ll give you the reasons why!
First, it has super cozy couches. Second, I looovvvve the chicken nuggets because they’re light and airy and their breading is really good. Third, the fruit cup is really good if you like melons because there is yummy honey dew, cantaloupe, and pineapple. Fourth, their mac and cheese (which is white cheese) is really, really good. Fifth, their cookies and cream brownie is super good, with cream and Oreo crumble mix on top and brownie on the bottom. Sixth, the churros are good but they’re better with the white cream or the chocolate dips. Seventh, aaaaalllllll the waiters are really nice.”

Is Nomad Lounge a comfortable place to sit during a long Animal Kingdom day?
Yes! Remember, I wrote about the cozy couches.
How do you feel during a meal at Nomad Lounge? Is it loud or busy?
I feel calm, relaxed, and happy.
Do you like eating lunch or dinner at Nomad Lounge better?
I’ve only ate lunch there once or twice [we’ve had dinner there many times], but I think I’m good with both.

Is Nomad Lounge for Your Kids?
Nomad Lounge is great for our family because the small menu has solid food and beverage options for the adults, and the kids menu always has something for our kids to enjoy. The atmosphere is relaxed, and we feel more at home on the “super cozy couches” than we do in a booth or table at other restaurants. Animal Kingdom is a park with a lot of excellent dining options, but Nomad Lounge is worth a look if you’re in the area and the wait is low.
Do your kids enjoy Nomad Lounge? Are there other restaurants, attractions, events, or resorts that you’d appreciate a kid’s perspective on? Let us know in the comments!

Big fan of Nomad lounge. Before it got super popular we would go and dine on the terrace, where our kid took a nap while we noshed!
Not really kid-related, but the background music loop at Nomad Lounge is one of the best modern ones at WDW. It’s worth checking out on online if you can find it.
Yessss! Not something my kid would notice, but I definitely do.
I am super impressed with your daughter prose. It is very readable, and has almost no spelling mistakes !
I am surprised as some words were not easy such as cantaloupe, or sixth.
The writing is excellent too !
Thank you! Writing is her favorite thing to do – she writes whole “chapter books” in the mornings before school about once a week.
You can congratulate your daughter !
What a great review! Thanks for sharing this information!
The menu on the Disney website doesn’t actually list chicken nuggets as an option. Is this something that is just always available off menu? Maybe because the lounge can also access food on the Tiffins menu?
It’s always available off-menu! The nuggets aren’t actually on the Tiffins menu either, but they’re available in both places.
Oh, that’s awesome, and super helpful to know!
