Disney in a Minute: What is a Rapid Fill Mug?

We’re here with a series of quick posts, “Disney in a Minute,” bite-sized nuggets of information that can better help you understand a Disney term or planning topic. Enjoy!

Rapid Fill mugs are insulated plastic mugs that you can use repeatedly at your Walt Disney World resort hotel to acquire fountain soft drinks, coffee, tea (hot or iced), and sometimes hot cocoa, for a flat fee. The mugs are tagged with an RFID chip that allows them to activate the Disney resort hotel beverage dispensers.

Rapid Fill mugs can be used at locations in the Disney hotels, but not at the theme parks, water parks, Disney Springs, or other Walt Disney World locations. While “Rapid Fill” is the official term for these mugs, you may also hear them referred to a “Refillable Mugs” or “Rapid Refill Mugs.”

There are two ways to acquire a Rapid Fill mug: You can buy one for a flat fee (currently $21.99) at any WDW resort hotel food court. Or, if you purchase the Disney Dining Plan, you’ll receive one mug for each member of your party, included with your package.

After purchase, Rapid Fill mugs can be used for up to 14 days at Disney World resorts, as much as you like, with the caveat that you must wait 60-seconds between mug fills. Food courts and similar locations have a mug wash station located near the soda fountains so you can rinse your mug between uses.

If you’re not on the Disney Dining Plan and are considering paying for a Rapid Fill mug during your vacation, take a look at our cost/benefit analysis, To Buy or Not To Buy: The Rapid Fill Refill Question.
