Disneyland Crowd Calendar Update For February 2022
We recently updated our Crowd Calendar predictions for Walt Disney World. You can read about it here. Many of the explanations for increased crowd levels apply to Disneyland as well.
At Disneyland Resort there is some recent evidence that crowds are coming back to pre-Covid levels. Restrictions to travel are being lifted and families are re-planning long delayed trips. The average crowd level at Disneyland Park since January 1 is 5.5. The average predicted crowd level during that time was 4.4. At Disney California Adventure we see the same story. Average 5.2, predicted 3.9.
Bookings for Disneyland Resort are up, California travel is up and travel in general is up. So, it is time to update the Disneyland Crowd Calendar.
What’s In This Update?
Crowd Level predictions are going up at Disneyland. This update covers dates between February 23, 2022 and December 31, 2023 (only the next 365 days are visible). Many days will see an increase of one or two points, occasionally three or more. Some days even drop a point. If you have specific dates in mind for your Disneyland trip, remember to click “Track This Day” on the Disneyland Crowd Calendar to be notified when a crowd level prediction changes for that date.
If the crowd level prediction goes up for your Disneyland trip, don’t panic. The difference between a crowd level ‘3’ and a crowd level ‘5’ isn’t as much as you’d think. Rides like Space Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad have an average posted time of 55 and 36 minutes respectively on a crowd level ‘3’ day. On a crowd level ‘5’ day that average only jumps up five minutes to 60 and 40 minutes, respectively.
Also, when you use a touring plan you are already beating the crowds by optimizing your itinerary. Use a touring plan and you are guaranteed to wait the least amount of time possible, no matter the crowd level.
When to Expect the Next Update?
One way that we plan to deal with these sudden upswings is to update the Disneyland Crowd Calendar more often. The last two years were wild in terms of crowd patterns at the parks. We have seen record low crowds during peak times and record highs on random Tuesdays in the off-season. We hope that this update will remain stable for the rest of 2022 but we plan to update again in a few weeks in case there are any recent patterns that need to be incorporated. If you are planning a 2022 Disneyland trip we highly recommend sticking to your touring plan in case the crowds are significantly different than expected.
I really appreciate that these updates for the Disneyland crowd calendar are happening more often. Any word on when Disneyland touring plans will be able to incorporate genie + and lightning lane? On our most recent trip, even though the crowd level went up, we were able to still tour very efficiently using a plan on the day we were just focusing on the kiddie rides. But on the day we used genie+ and ILL to hit the headliners, our touring plan was mostly useless because it had no way to input genie+ or ILL reservations.
This was on my mind was well!
