According to Disney, the Disneyland Resort will officially be closing due to concerns about the Coronavirus (COVID-19). Details are as follows:

Coronavirus

While there have been no reported cases of COVID-19 at Disneyland Resort, after carefully reviewing the guidelines of the Governor of California’s executive order and in the best interest of our guests and employees, we are proceeding with the closure of Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure beginning the morning of March 14 through the end of the month. The Hotels of Disneyland Resort will remain open until Monday, March 16 to give guests the ability to make necessary travel arrangements; Downtown Disney will remain open. We will monitor the ongoing situation and follow the advice and guidance of federal and state officials and health agencies. Disney will continue to pay cast members during the time.

Disneyland Resort will work with guests who wish to change or cancel their visits, and will provide refunds to those who have hotel bookings during this closure period. We anticipate heavy call volume over the next several days and appreciate guests’ patience as we work hard to respond to all inquiries.

Please contact The Walt Disney Travel Company for questions and cancellations at 714-520-5050.

  • Reading some of these comments from March 2020 with the benefit of 3 months of hindsight is kind of… surreal…

  • That’s true, I suppose, although perhaps not much worse than going to the grocery story or getting gas. I guess I am picturing an army of guys with paint brushes each with their own 20-ft zone of space or something, which may not be terribly realistic. And was kind of thinking more that the risk came from out-of country guests or simply from needing to interact with hundreds of people an hour and doing maintenance would be much less interactive than that. But who knows? With the extreme precautions people are taking, perhaps even the lone street sweepers are staying home and enjoying Disney+

    🙂

  • Unfortunately, work is actually done by Cast Members who are human beings that have the potential to become sick when working alongside each other — and so it would be putting them at risk to do refurbishment during a mandatory shutdown and/or quarantine situation.

  • Actually, on a more serious note, will the Disney company use this time to do some referbishment of everything? That’d be the smart move.

  • Wow, this is rare. Is Civilization coming to an end?
