Our Lines users report that guests entering Disney’s Hollywood Studios since yesterday have been handed a Buy-One-Get-One-Free coupon, good for entrees at the ABC Commissary, Backlot Express and Studios Catering Co. before 11:30 am and between 3 and 4 pm each day. We’re told this is a two-week test, so it should run through April 16.

Does it work with credits on a DDP? I bet not. Since I broke down and got a DDP for my trip this weekend for the first time in four years. *sigh*
I bet it won’t give you credits, but at least you will save a meal for a breakfast or something later in your trip!
You can use the coupon and pay cash for your meal at DHS, then use that extra dining credit for a 2 credit meal instead. (That’s the silver lining.)
The coupons are for quick service restaurants, there is no such thing as a 2 credit quick service place anywhere, but if you are using the dining plan and want to take advantage of the coupon you could pay out of pocket for one meal, get one free and then you’d have two extra quick service credits to use during your trip (like for breakfast or something).
Exactly the strategy I’d use.
This sounds like a serious effort to steer guests to less crowded hours…which, of course, is the advice the UGtWDW has always touted anyway. Nice to know those of us who follow your advice might just get a free meal out of it! I’ve enjoyed every meal at all of the DHS levels of dining, both the food and the service. You can be sure that if I had concerns I’d share them with Disney management, where I could reasonably expect them to do the most good.
Maybe if they just improved the quality of dining in DHS they wouldn’t have to try and increase traffic through the use of coupons. As with many things in the Studios in recent years, the quality of dining has dropped off, IMHO.
