Limited Time Overlay Coming to TRON Lightcycle Run September 2025

TRON Ares heads for theaters in October 2025, and we’re getting an in-park activation at TRON Lightcycle/Run! For a limited time beginning in mid-September, TRON’s usual blue and orange canopy lighting will be replaced with red and orange light trails at both Disney World and Shanghai Disneyland. And as part of the overlay, the ride’s soundtrack will get a few additions from Nine Inch Nails.

Tron: Ares, the third movie in the TRON sci-fi series, hits the big screen on October 10, 2025. According to Disney, “Ares is a powerful and self-aware program sent from the digital realm into the real world for a mission that could change both forever. Tron: Ares is a mind-bending collision of technology, identity, and reality.”

We’re not sure how the red color ties into the plot of the film, but presumably all will become clear in time. The Nine Inch Nails connection is more straightforward, as it had already been announced that the band would contribute to the film’s soundtrack. The first single, “As Alive As You Need Me To Be”, is already out on YouTube.

At Disney World, the TRON on-ride photo will reflect the red lighting during the overlay. There’s no word about any other changes to the ride experience at Shanghai Disneyland.

The TRON:Ares overlay for TRON Lightcycle/Run at Disney World begins on September 15. At Shanghai Disneyland, The overlay is coming to TRON Lightcycle Power Run on September 16. No word as to how long these attraction specials will be in place, but we’d expect it to last at least through the launch date of the film.
