New Details About the Disney Skyliner Gondola Transportation System
When it was announced at the D23 Expo that the Walt Disney World Resort was getting a gondola transportation system, called the Disney Skyliner, I was a little surprised. It was a cool idea, but the questions soon started coming to my mind. Today, Disney answered some of the questions I had, as well as some additional ones.
First things first, it was announced that Disney characters like the Fab Five, characters from Disney attractions, fan favorites from movies, and more would be a part of the fun. The exterior of the cabins will feature iconic beloved Disney characters incorporated into their design, like Belle and Beast, the Haunted Mansion ghosts, Mickey and Minnie, and more.
The main hub of the Disney Skyliner will be at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort. At this station, Guests will be able to transfer gondola routes to reach their destination. This station is inspired by the open air village marketplaces of the Caribbean. It will showcase the nearby resort’s architectural detailing and color schemes.
One of the destinations will be Epcot. Guests will be able to enter and exit at the International Gateway entrance located near World Showcase. The design of the Disney Skyliner station here will be inspired by the park’s nearby European Pavilions. The station will be covered with metal and glass canopies, will feature hand-painted murals and ornamental steel structures that call back to the early 18th century Art Nouveau style. Oh and let’s not forget about the views, because Guests traveling to Epcot will experience a birds-eye view of World Showcase.
I think I love the Disney’s Hollywood Studios Skyliner station the most though because the design style will fit with that of the park’s main entrance and bus stations. Passengers traveling here can expect a new aerial perspective of the park’s iconic attractions, like The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror.
Over at Disney’s Pop Century Resort and Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, Guests will share a Disney Skyliner station. Here, the station will feel whimsical and fit both resorts. Upon departing the gondola station, Skyliner passengers will ascend over Hourglass Lake and enjoy a panoramic view of these two colorful resorts.
Finally, Guests will be treated to fantastic views as cabins will slow down at the Disney Skyliner turn-station along Buena Vista Drive, where guests can see the mechanical and aerial components that make up the Disney Skyliner.

I was talking to one of the bus drivers when i was there in August and I asked what would happen if a scooter or wheelchair were to be loaded on the skylines. He said the gondola comes completely off and the scooter/wheelchair is loaded or unloaded and reattached while the other gondola just keep moving.
Hi, Lisa! In our post from this week about the updates to the Art of Animation-Pop Century station, we have pictures of that little “bypass” that they can use to pull a car out of the rotation, let people load, and then add it back into the mix. The system works very smoothly!

any more info on whether there will be AC in the cabins?
Sounds like fun! Growing up in Houston, Astroworld had a gondola system and I loved it. It was like a ride in itself, plus saves walking. At first I didn’t understand what it was, but now that I see the cabins, I love this idea. I’m going to DW and staying at Carribbean Beach over Spring Break for the first time at CB. I’m sure the prices there will go up with increased demand being on the Gondola route.
I really hope they expand the International Gateway Entrance as it can back up now. I can only imagine how many more people will be using it once the Gondolas get up and running.
