New Pixar Play Zone Children’s Experience at Disney’s Contemporary Resort

There is a brand new activity center at Disney’s Contemporary Resort called Pixar Play Zone on the horizon. Starting on April 13, little ones can participate in a brand-new, playful and immersive Pixar character experience as part of a pilot program. Each night, kids, ages 4-12, will be transported to a world full of excitement and adventure with their favorite characters from Toy Story and The Incredibles! While the kids play, their parents will be able to enjoy their own getaway throughout the resort.

The overall experience sounds like something that would take place in the Oceaneer Lab on Disney Cruise Line.

Doors for check-in for this opportunity will open at 5:00 p.m. Once little ones have been welcomed, they will stop at the Monsters, Inc. handwashing station, then Boo’s Closet Door, where belongings will be able to be stored.

Guests will be able to visit Bonnie’s Play Room, which will feature a variety of toys. Around the corner, the Living Room will be the center for most of the action, starting with Space Ranger Training where a Space Ranger will teach kids what it takes to become a Jr. Space Ranger of Star Command. Then, Woody and Jessie will show them the ropes during Woody’s Roundup.

Next to the Living Room will be the Radiator Springs Racetrack where kiddos will be able to build their own race cars and take turns sending them down a soapbox derby racetrack for Piston Cup Derby Races. Here, Guests will take part in the Incredible Dance Party with Mr. Incredible and Mrs. Incredible.

The evening will also include arcade games, dinner and dessert.

The cost of this experience is $65 per child (plus tax). Programming will run from 6:00 p.m. -10:30 p.m. Children must be fully potty-trained. In order to check children in and out of the experience, parents will be required to be physically present.

  • We booked our kiddos for this! Can’t wait to see how they like it. Only problem is I kind of want to meet Woody and Jessie too!

  • I’ve used babysitting services and kids night out. It’s been so nice that we have the sitter’s number and arrange care directly sometimes now.

    With a larger family, a private sitter is much cheaper than the per child fee of $65. >= 3 kids is the turning point. 2 kids is probably similar in price between private sitter and the group childcare.

    However, for a one child family, group childcare is both more interesting for the child and cheaper for the parent.

    So it’s good to see the choice isn’t completely eliminated.

  • I hope this allows for more free play, and not the same experience every time. Compared to Lilo’s, the price has increased by $10 and lost 2 hours of play, and now it seems like there will be much more of an itinerary, favored over creative play. I hope this is just the start of different kids club options, because as it stands I’m not impressed with this as a Lilo’s Playhouse replacement.

  • Our youngest was too young on our last trip for us to take advantage of the kids clubs. I had been looking forward to using them when we go back in a couple of years so I was disappointed to hear they were closing down. I do hope that this is successful and stay around – it seems like such a great opportunity for parents to enjoy some of the things Disney offers that are not kid-friendly.

  • Any word on if it’s only for those staying at the Contemporary?

  • I didn’t see this coming, after the announcement (just two months ago) that the kids’ clubs at the Poly, AK Lodge, and Y/B Clubs would be closing down. I like the theming in the concept art, and I love the soapbox derby idea.

    The location at the Contemporary would make this a natural fit for parents attending the Highway in the Sky Dine-Around… has that been successful enough to be the driving force behind this move?
