It was announced back at the D23 Expo that Spaceship Earth would be changing as part of the giant updates happening to Epcot. (Now apparently known once again as EPCOT.) Disney released more information about what we can expect not only about when the attraction will be closing to make way for the changes, but also just what some of those changes would be.
Let’s get to the big question that is on everyone’s minds. When will the attraction close? Spaceship Earth will cease to exist in its current iteration beginning on May 26.
So, what will we be able to expect with the new version of this classic EPCOT attraction? The next version of Spaceship Earth tell the story of humanity – following our journey from prehistoric humans to today – and it will all be brought to life with magic and depth that only Disney can deliver. Many of the scenes that you know and love will be updated and they will be blended with brand-new scenes that tell a story about our human experience.
One of these scenes will take us to an updated Egypt (which is showcased in the concept art) that will be transformed through the power of light. Throughout the attraction, you’ll hear new narration and see how light plays a central role in our shared human journey.
This updated version will be the attraction’s fourth update since the park’s grand opening on October 1, 1982. There is currently no word on when the attraction will reopen from it’s update.
