Surviving the Rain at Halloween Horror Nights Orlando
There’s a joke in the Horror Nights fandom that whenever Universal plants corn for HHN you should expect bad weather that year. Needless to say they planted corn in Dead Coconut Club this year! But rain is common in September as Orlando is in the middle of its hurricane season and the cool fall air pushes the hot humid summer air out. Halloween Horror Nights runs through all weather so what is a horror fan to do when it downpours? This article covers strategies and options for when it rains at Halloween Horror Nights.

Watch the Weather
On the day of your HHN visit watch the hourly weather on sites like weather.com or accuweather.com to determine if and when any rain is forecasted. If you know a rain storm is expected at a certain time you can plan around that storm by seeing shows, doing rides, or having a break in CityWalk. I suggest downloading a weather app that provides the ability to send alerts if rain is on the way.
Things to Bring
Bringing a few items to HHN can help make your night more pleasant:
- Ponchos – the classic theme park rain staple, bring your own from home for a fraction of the price in the parks. We like these credit card-sized disposable ponchos from Amazon that can fit in any bag.
- Umbrella – When it’s not quite poncho time or you need to run between covered locations. Don’t bring your golf umbrella, they’re not allowed. Instead bring a smaller collapsible umbrella instead.
- Small Towel – Wipe off you, seating, etc
- Good Shoes – Good pairs should dry quickly, offer good support, and not be able to withstand water. There are lots of stories of folks sneakers falling apart in the middle of the event during a storm.
- Spare Socks – If you know you know. Agony from The Squish is real.

Places to Hunker Down
The storms are coming, or have arrived, and you’re looking to wait it out. There are three great locations where to hunker down in Universal Studios Florida.
- Fast Food Boulevard – Located by several of the house entrances in the back of the park, there is ample seating, food and drinks, and a restroom available. This is located near the house entracne at Simpsons.
- Minion Cafe – Similar to FFB but located at the front of the park but slightly smaller.
- Diagon Alley – A large space with covered areas, just not much seating.
If you can get out of the park before it rains we suggest heading to CityWalk. Visit one of the many restaurants for food and drinks or head to the Dead Coconut Club for more Halloween fun.
TouringPlans Rain Touring Tips
- Check the weather and if rain is expected then track during the event. A weather app with notifications for incoming rain is an evening saver.
- Prepare by bringing weather gear and other items that will keep you dry and happy.
- When rain arrives escape to CityWalk or hunker down in the park. Be ready to enter house lines as the rain ends – the queue waits will be super short!
