Take A Trip To Winter Summerland!
Maybe you are looking for something a bit more low key to do after leaving the parks for the night. In that case, I’d like to suggest taking a trip to the Winter Summerland miniature golf course. Located near Blizzard Beach, the attraction features two separate 18 hole courses which are full of puns, gags, and general wackiness. The cost is $11.75 for adults and $9.75 for kids. And for all of you Annual Pass holders out there, we get a discount for playing. If you are trying to avoid the kiddy scene the later you go, the better.
Like all things in Walt Disney World, Winter Summerland has a story. It is said that Santa discovered this place where snow and sand mix and decided it would be the perfect place for him and his elves to spend their off season. Apparently the elves were divided with some liking the summer weather, and the others preferring the snow. Each faction built their own golf courses and put them together to form Winter Summerland.
The two courses each have their own theme. You can play the Winter/Snow course with its winter in Florida (similar to its Blizzard Beach neighbor). Or if you are in the Christmas spirit you can play the Summer/Sand course with its tropical Christmas in the islands motif. Like most other mini golf complexes around the country, each hole in either side has obstacles, many of which are interactive. Look out for the ones that shoot water! The Imagineers had a field day creating this area and it’s certainly worth checking out.
In fact, one of my favorite memories of Disney World took place at Winter Summerland. Two other Unofficial Guide researchers and I decided to give it a go one night on our big research trip. We had only met hours earlier, but carried on like old friends. We goofed off at each hole and had each other in stitches. One of my fellow golfers and I have become dear friends, and it all started at Winter Summerland! I hope you have as much fun as we did!
Next time I’ll discuss one most loved Disney World resorts and my recent stay there…
