Holiday Overlay at Tomorrowland Speedway is a Modern Take on Winter

The Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland Speedway ride has gotten a minor holiday overlay. The ride vehicles and track are exactly the same as always. But as you drive your car along the route, you pass several areas of large white objects – stylized trees, snowballs and ice blocks. These are the decor that during Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party will become key focal points during this attraction.

I find theme slightly strange, mostly because a pile of giant white blocks just seems so weird when juxtaposed with with old-timey sports cars and diesel fumes. But it’s weird in a Mad Men retro dream kind of way that I kind of like. What do you think?

  • Sorry, I think they intend to only put the Speedway lights on during the party to keep it exclusive to needing buy a ticket. But there’s other stuff that was supposed to party only and they’ve since let it go public (like the Christmas Tree popcorn buckets and Sven Sipper) so maybe they put the lights on too.

  • Are the lights only on during the party? What about the days MK is open late? I got a FP for this Saturday night specifically so we could see these lights.

  • In the same way that I personally don’t “get” modern art, I also don’t really enjoy this. I am happy to see them do seasonal overlays, though, even if they aren’t to my personal taste.
