Universal Studios Florida Rope Drop Guide
Universal Studios Florida is the OG Universal park in Orlando that takes you into the movies and television shows you love. But what is the right strategy for touring the park first thing in the morning? This post will help you tackle all your questions on rope drop, entry procedures, and more.

Getting to Universal Studios Florida
Universal Studios Florida is located off I-4 at 6000 Universal Boulevard, Orlando, FL 32819. When driving on I-4 East going North/East from Walt Disney World take exit 75A; when driving from downtown Orlando on I-4 West going South/West take exit 75B-A. Parking is in the North Campus parking garages; before you leave your car make sure to note your section, floor, and row.
Guests staying at all Universal hotels have several ways of reaching USF and IOA. Guests at all Universal Orlando hotels have bus transportation to the transportation hub for quick access to the parks. Boat transportation to the middle of CityWalk is available at Portofino Bay, Hard Rock Hotel, Royal Pacific, and Sapphire Falls. Walking paths are also available for Portofino Bay, Hard Rock, Royal Pacific, Sapphire Falls, Aventura, and Cabana Bay.

Parking Garages & CityWalk
Unlike the Walt Disney World parks and Epic Universe, Universal Studios Florida shares a parking structure with guests going to CityWalk, Volcano Bay, and Islands of Adventure. Due to this parking set up it takes longer to reach USF than it does to reach other parks. Expect parking and walking to the front gates to take an additional 20 to 30 minutes after you pass the toll booth. CityWalk has operating hours separate from the parks, usually 7:00 am to midnight, and the parking garages open approximately an hour before that.
Once past security and inside CityWalk guests will pass by the Cinemark Theaters on the right and head towards the CityWalk lagoon. From here guests can swing to the right as they past the Universal Studios Store to head to Universal Studios Florida (look for the Fast & Furious coaster) or head towards Bigfire for Islands of Adventure (look for the Islands lighthouse).
Security, Entry, & Pre-Opening Operations
Security is located in the Transportation Rotunda between the parking garages and CityWalk. Universal uses metal detection and bag scanners in their security set-up, and all items in pockets must go through the scanners. While the security station in the Rotunda might seem intimidating and busy, we generally find it’s quick and can process guests efficiently.
Turnstiles for USF are located at the front of each park and both use Photo Validation for entry into the park. When working correctly we find this entry system is as fast as Disney’s tap turnstiles for MagicBand.

Early Park Admission Rope Drop
Early Park Admission is usually not offered at Universal Studios Florida and hasn’t been offered for several years. Sorry, the woodpecker out front shoulda told ya!
Attractions to Prioritize
If Early Park Admission is offered during your stay, then expect to see Despicable Me Minion Mayhem, Transformers the Ride, and Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts to be open. If there’s a new super headliner open (such as Fast & Furious Hollywood Drift), expect that to be on the operating list, too. If there’s a new super headliner, visit that attraction first, otherwise do Gringotts and Diagon Alley first.

Regular Rope Drop
Universal Studios Florida has been opening at 10:00 am on standard days and 9:00 am on Halloween Horror Nights days. Front gates open approximately half an hour prior to park opening, with guests held at Despicable Me Minion Mayhem and Bourne Stuntacular. Guests are then allowed into the park roughly 15 minutes prior to official park open, with attractions like Minion Mayhem, VillaionCon, and Gringotts usually open at this time. We suggest arriving 45 minutes prior to park opening on slow days and up to an hour before park opening on busy days. This will have you among the first on the most popular attractions.
USF, like Epcot and Epic Universe, has a second entrance. Guests can take the Hogwarts Express from Islands of Adventure to the back of the park, near Diagon Alley. Despite the Hogwarts Express dropping guests closer to Gringotts, when you factor in ride time and walking time you find that entering USF at the front is still the best.
Attractions to Prioritize
The two attractions to focus on at the park open are Despicable Me Minion Mayhem and Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts. Minion Mayhem is immediately inside the park entrance and has a low capacity which equates to long waits for most of the day. Gringotts is the park’s only Potter ride (that doesn’t require a Park-to-Park ticket) and always has the longest waits of the day. If you are among the first into the park do Minion Mayhem first then head to Gringotts, not because Minion Mayhem’s lines increase so much but because the two attractions are so far away from each other. If you don’t enter the park with the first batch of guests then head to Gringotts and tour the back of the park first.
USF is opening it’s biggest new attraction in a decade for the summer of 2027 with Fast & Furious Hollywood Drift. We expect the hype and word of mouth will make it a must-do for most guests. When the attraction opens ride it first thing in the morning after opening.

TouringPlans Touring Tips
- Factor in the time it takes for parking, navigating the garage, security, and walking through CityWalk – add an additional 20 to 45 minutes onto your arrival time.
- Arrive at least half an hour prior to park opening, and up to an hour on busy days, to be among the first in the park.
- Prioritize either Despicable Me Minion Mayhem or Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts first thing in the morning.
- If you can be the very first in the park you can experience both Minion Mayhem and Gringotts in the morning.
- Can’t make it to park opening? Start at Revenge of the Mummy, Transformers, or Men in Black Alien Attack.
