Ahoy, mateys! I’m Heather, and I’ll be bringing you the up and coming on all things Disney Cruise Line. Welcome back again this week. Let’s see what’s new in the DCL world.

Disney Cruise Line: In The News
You may have heard about a little movie that premiered last week….Black Panther? Ring a bell maybe?? The latest installment in the Marvel world is proving to be a fast favorite with fans. Guests sailing on the Marvel Day at Sea cruises on the Disney Magic this spring have already had the chance to meet the Black Panther on board. Definitely a photo op you’ll want to add to the list of things to do on this amazing itinerary!
These days there is an app for that, and that, and that…..for everything! If you have already sailed, you may be familiar with the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app. The app got an update this week, and it comes with some nicely updated features! Most of the function of the app is only available once you are onboard and connected to the free Wi-Fi. According to this video shared by The Disney Cruise Line Blog highlighting the updates, once on board you’ll be able to see schedules, add activities to your plans, and see existing plans that you’ve already booked. Before your sail date, the main function of the app comes in the cruise countdown clock — although in this version we no longer get the cute little vintage suitcase look that was featured on the previous version. Is this plain countdown clock enough to keep you from taking a screenshot and bragging sharing it with your friends? Nah…
This week, the Disney Magic will be headed to Freeport for a quick but exciting dry dock. Cove Cafe and Signals Bar will both be getting fresh, tropical-themed updates. The Rainforest Room in Senses Spa will be refreshed, and Club Disney Junior will be added to the Oceaneer Club. But possibly the most exciting update of all is the transformation of Carioca’s to the new Rapunzel’s Royal Table! This new main dining room will have the same fully immersive experience guests are already loving at Tiana’s Place on the Disney Wonder. Glowing lanterns, Snuggly Duckling Thugs, and of course the completely adorable Rapunzel herself make this a recipe for something amazing! The Disney Magic will be back on the sea showing off her new looks on March 9, a 5-night Bahamian cruise out of Miami. What are you most looking forward to from this dry dock?
And finally, this week’s special offers. Most every week of the year, Disney Cruise Line releases special offers for Florida Residents and U.S. Military Personnel. There are also frequently IGT/OGT/VGT rates available for all guests to book. These offers are extremely limited in availability, and all come with certain restrictions, but the prices are amazing! You can book these online, on the phone, or with your travel agent. These are the current offers available this week:
The following films are being shown aboard the Disney Cruise Line ships this month:
- Beauty and the Beast
- Born In China
- Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
- Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales
- Cars 3
- Doctor Strange
- Star Wars: The Force Awakens
- Thor: Ragnarok
- Star Wars: The Last Jedi
- Black Panther
For future reference, films debut on Disney Cruise Line the same day of their initial release in the United States. Films do vary by ship. Show times are available in your Personal Navigator or the official Disney Cruise Line app.
Captain’s Log: Important Tips and Information
Above, I mentioned “free Wi-Fi” on the ships – now, don’t go getting too excited. DCL does offer unlimited “free service” for guests with a catch – you’ll only be able to use it for the Navigator app. Now, that is a great thing, especially for the chat function! But if it’s true connection to the outside world you are looking for, you’re going to have to be prepared to cough up some extra cash for that. HOT TIP: you can get some Wi-Fi for free!! Guests are able to sign up for 50MB (more if you are staying Concierge) of Wi-Fi FREE, but you have to do this on the first day of your cruise. Free. Wi-Fi. Don’t skip this!! Just follow the Connect@Sea link in the Navigator app, create your account, and off you go! Now, once you’ve used up your free 50MB, you have the option to purchase more data. There are multiple levels of package options, ranging from 100MB up to 1GB of data, or “pay per MB as you go” options as well. These packages can get pricey, so it’s really important to make sure that you have the settings on your phone just right to make sure you aren’t leaking data behind the scenes. Tammy has a great cheat sheet on how to maximize your usage and make your MB go farther. Of course, the alternative is to completely unplug from the outside world and forego all connection during your cruise….but if that’s not quite for you (and no judgment!), it’s great to know you have options!
Are you deciding whether to book a Disney Cruise but are having a tough time picking which ship fits all of your desires? Well, our own Laurel Stewart has put together a chart that makes it easy to compare all of the options in one place. Also available as a valuable planning and companion guide from authors Len Testa, Erin Foster, and Laurel Stewart is The Unofficial Guide to the Disney Cruise Line. The companion guide contains a complete overview of each Disney ship as well as Castaway Cay and includes valuable tips on how to save time and money during your cruise!
