Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens to the masses, and Disneyland celebrates The Lion King and Toy Story 4! Read on to find out about this and more in this week’s Disneyland news.
Special Events and Notes
The biggest news by far this week is the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge to all Disneyland guests on Monday; up until now, only those with an advance reservation have been able to experience the new land. Disneyland will now utilize a virtual queue for entry into the land, so those waiting for their turn can enjoy the rest of the park while waiting for their opportunity. Disneyland has also introduced reservations for Oga’s Cantina and Savi’s Workshop, two high-demand experiences in the new land, both of which have extremely limited capacity. Details on the process were announced on the Disney Park Blog on Wednesday.
For complete details, check out Rikki’s recent post on the process. Briefly, however, you should download the Disneyland app prior to your arrival, and once you are in the park, open the app and follow the prompts to secure your spot in the virtual queue. Once your time to enter comes, you’ll have two hours to enter the land. Reservations for the Cantina and Savi’s Workshop can be secured starting at 7:00 a.m. on the day of your visit, and you do not need to be physically present in the park to make those reservations, as you do to enter the virtual queue.
Obviously, with the need for reservations no longer artificially limiting the number of people that can show up with an expectation of entering Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, we’re expecting very large crowds at Disneyland starting on Monday. Moreover, we’re not sure how the virtual queue will impact what would ordinarily be a mad dash to the new land at rope drop. Accordingly, we’re recommending that guests show up 2 hours prior to opening for now; we’ll update this once we’ve had a chance to see how the system works in practice.
Toy Story 4 is out, and Bo Peep is out meeting guests and Pixar Pier. There are also several special Toy Story-themed treats at the Golden Horseshoe. Check out Rikki’s story for more details.
The 25th Anniversary of The Lion King continues this week at Disney’s California Adventure. You’ll see storytellers; African song, dance, artwork, and crafts; and more at the Palisades Stage. Check here and your in-park times guide for more details.
As a reminder, the original Soarin’ Over California is back for a limited time! Get yourself over to California Adventure to breathe in some orange-scented air for old times’ sake between now and June 30.
Finally, Disney just announced a new Halloween Party at California Adventure this fall — the Oogie Boogie Bash — including a dance party, treat trails, and special presentation of World of Color called “Villainous.” More details are available here.
This week is a Tale of Two Crowds, as we’re predicting extremely low crowds on Saturday and Sunday while Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge remains reservation only, and extremely high crowds starting on Monday once it opens to the masses. If experiencing Galaxy’s Edge is important to you, we recommend arriving to the park approximately 2 hours before park opening.
Full details, including park-by-park crowd levels, are available on our Crowd Calendar.
This is June in Southern California, and the weather is going to be unsurprisingly nice, though it will trend towards it becoming hot towards the end of the week. As is common this time of year, there’s very little chance of rain in the forecast.
As always, it’s wise to double check the weather as the day of your visit approaches. Check out the most up-to-date forecast here.
