New Details About Three New Films Debuting at Epcot
It was announced at the D23 Expo that three new films, Awesome Planet, the Beauty and the Beast Sing-Along, and Canada Far and Wide would be debuting this upcoming January at Epcot and now, we have an official debut date – January 17, 2020!
Let’s learn a bit more about each of these three films!
“Awesome Planet” will be found in The Land pavilion in the former location of the Circle of Life: An Environmental Fable film. This new experience showcases the Earth’s beauty and diversity in a 10-minute film that will feature spectacular imagery, in-theater effects and an original musical score from Academy Award-winning composer Steven Price.
Moving to the France Pavilion, the “Beauty and the Beast Sing-Along” is directed and produced by Don Hahn, producer of the animated and live-action “Beauty and the Beast” films. Guests are invited to participate in a twist on the story, which features narration from Angela Lansbury. (She played Mrs. Potts in the original animated version of the film.) The new experience will run in rotation with “Impressions de France,” which will receive an upgrade to 4K projection.
Finally, showing in the Canada Pavilion will be “Canada Far and Wide in Circle-Vision 360”. This is an update to the previous “O Canada!” film. Gone is Martin Short, as there are going to be new scenes, a new musical score by Canadian composer Andrew Lockington and new narration by award-winning actors Catherine O’Hara and Eugene Levy.
Which film will you be excited to catch first on your next visit to Epcot?
Glad they are keeping Impressions de France. That one cannot be improved as far as content, but will be nicer in 4K.
They are eventually doing a new movie for China – called Wondrous China. Not sure when it will premier. Perhaps 2021.
Super excited for Awesome Planet and the new Canada show. I love Oh Canada (and Martin Short) but that one is so seriously dated. Catherine O’Hara and Eugene Levy are great choices. There are already two Beauty and the Beast shows (Enchanted Tales with Belle and the stage show at H.S. but I would be interested to check it out once since I’m a fan of Angela Lansbury. I wish they would update Reflections of China as well.
Glad that they’re keeping the Canada film in the SCTV family.
‘Cause “Impressions de France” is a great film and it depicts a France that is more distinctive than any the homogenized modern France of the EU.
It’ll be good to get a new film for Canada and The Land. I wonder why France didn’t get a new film? The sing-along seems like a temporary fix.
I nearly rage quit over the Beauty and the Beast Sing-Along until I read that Impressions de France will still run.
