Say Goodbye to a Frontierland Classic

After more than half a century, Walt Disney World’s Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade will be closing later this month. It’s final day of operation will be Sunday, June 23, 2024. An opening day attraction, it is slated to be replaced by a Disney Vacation Club lounge, likely similar to the one in the Imagination pavilion at EPCOT. Disney says construction on the new lounge will begin this year, and more details are coming at a later date.

The Arcade has seen a few updates over the years, including a switch from lead pellets to light-based “ammo” that leaves the targets intact in the early ’80s. Disney parks ceased selling realistic and semi-realistic toy guns in 2015, but the Arcade, with its replica rifles, remained.

Following the park’s post-COVID reopening in 2020, the attraction switched from pay-to-play ($1 for 35 shots) to free. Although you can’t win any prizes at the Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade, it was a favorite of some guests because it was something to do, and it had a reliably zero wait time.

Those wishing for a shooting-style experience at Disney World still have three options. In the Magic Kingdom park, there’s Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin. Over at Hollywood Studios, there’s Toy Story Mania. And the shooting-gallery-style attraction most similar to the Shootin’ Arcade, the Fossil Fun Games remains open in Disney’s Animal Kingdom remains open, for now. It’s unclear what the future will bring for Fossil Fun Games when the details of Dinoland’s reimagining are announced.
