Beat the Heat At Universal Orlando

The heat is a top vacation destroyer during the summer, so stay safe with our touring tips on staying cool at Universal Orlando Resort.

You, Heat, & Safety

Orlando can get hot. VERY hot. Average temperatures in July through September frequently reach into the mid-90s °F with real feel conditions in the 110s °F. That’s so hot that a lot of individuals will overheat or experience heat exhaustion without cooling and water. Heat exhaustion and heat stroke are no jokes, they cannot just ruin a vacation but your life. Stay informed on symptoms to look for between heat stroke and heat exhaustion from the Cleveland Clinic.

If you are another person are experiencing any symptoms of heat stroke or heat exhaustion immediately go inside and notify a Team Member for assistance.

Coke Freestyle Machines

Hydration

Staying hydrated during warm weather is important, and it’s especially important when walking miles in a theme park. Drinking fountains and bottle refill stations are located throughout the parks by rest areas and restrooms. The dozen or so Coke Freestyle machines located in the parks also dispense free cold water and all quick service locations will supply free water in cups. We suggest picking up a collapsible water bottle that is easily to store when empty.

Universal Studios Florida

Universal Studios Florida has the most indoor attractions of the four Universal parks and is a good choice for days with inclement weather and heat. All but three attractions are indoors and most attractions have indoor queues. Here are the attractions that have a majority of their queues and waits indoors:

  • The Bourne Stuntacular
  • Horror Make-Up Show
  • Revenge of the Mummy
  • Transformers the Ride
  • Men in Black Alien Attack
  • Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts

USF’s indoor dining is also extensive and well supplied around the park, but we particularly like chilling in Fast Food Boulevard in Springfield (Home of the Simpsons), Finnegan’s Bar in New York, and Richter’s in San Francisco when we need a quick break.

Islands of Adventure

Islands lacks indoor attractions like Studios (minus the incredible Amazing Adventures of Spider-man and Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey) but makes up for it with attractions that want to drench you. Seriously, you can get a full baptism on these rides:

  • One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish
  • Jurassic Park River Adventure
  • Dudley Do-Rights Ripsaw Falls
  • Popeye & Bluto’s Bilge-rat Barges

There are also water play areas in Seuss Landing, Toon Lagoon, and Jurassic Park for hyperactive kids to cool off. But don’t think only rides are places to cool off, there are some massive stores and arcades that offer air conditioning and shade:

  • Island Mercantile store in Port of Entry
  • Kingpin’s Arcade in Marvel Super Hero Island
  • Jurassic Park Discovery Center

Epic Universe

Epic Universe has a reputation for being hot and uncovered, and for good reasons as a lot of the park’s landscaping is still growing in. Many attractions are outdoors, queues are outdoors, and overall just very hot. There are a few indoor attractions, though, and we think they’re worth your time to visit:

  • Mario Kart Bowser’s Challenge
  • Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment
  • Harry Potter and the Battle for the Ministry
  • Le Cirque Arcanus
  • The Untrainable Dragon (note: waiting area before show is outdoors but covered)

We especially like Battle for the Ministry as Universal allows guests to linger in the indoor and air conditioned Ministry lobby after the ride.

TouringPlans Touring Tips

⭐️ The hottest times of the day are between 1:30 pm till 4:30 pm. Return to your hotel for a mid-day break, take in an indoor show, or have a long lunch.

⭐️ Umbrellas are not just for the rain but are also great at blocking the sun. Hats and coolings towels also help cool and keep you out of the sun.

⭐️ Skip the alcohol and caffeine, pick up water and sports drinks.
