Disney Cruise Line in a Jiffy: What is Preludes

There are a lot of differences between the soon-to-be-eight Disney ships, but one thing they all have in common is Preludes. You’ll always find Preludes on the same deck as the entrance to the Walt Disney Theatre, because it serves as the theater’s concession stand.

If you look it up on the Disney Cruise Line website, Preludes “is a snack stand located near the Walt Disney Theatre.” But that’s not quite accurate, because there are actually two concession windows. Preludes refers to the entire area just outside the theater; what would be called the foyer in a theater building on land. This space stretches across the space between the theater’s doors. On either side are short corridors leading to the doors, and the snack stands are in these corridors.

When the Walt Disney Theatre isn’t in use, the lobby area at Preludes is often used for Character Meet & Greets. The concession windows won’t be open, and Preludes is just an attractive and convenient space for pictures.

Preludes opens its concession windows a short time before events begin in the Walt Disney Theatre. (It’s usually about half an hour.) The offerings are like what you’d find at any theater: popcorn, packaged candy, and a selection of cocktails and non-alcoholic drinks. Refillable popcorn buckets (including themed ones!) purchased on the cruise can be used at Preludes. The concessions at Preludes are for sale and are not included in the price of your cruise.
